PHOTO ESSAY: This is a sagala, the central figure of the Santacruzan, in which women are dressed in elegant Filipiniana gowns and represent biblical, historical, or allegorical figures.

The Santacruzan is a beauty pageant held in many cities, towns, and small communities during the "Flores de Mayo" festivity in the Philippines since the mid-1800s, during the Spanish colonial era.

R.I.P. Alex Baluyut, one of the Philippine’s award-winning, veteran photojournalist

REST IN PEACE

Pumanaw na ang multi-awarded photographer at founding member ng Photojournalists' Center of the Philippines (P*P) na si Alex Baluyut nitong Biyernes, Feb. 27.

Kinumpirma ito ng kanyang asawa na si Precious Leano sa isang Facebook post.

Kinilala si Baluyut bilang isa sa "Most Influential Asian Photographers" ng Invisible Photographer Asia. Wagi rin siya noon ng National Book Award mula sa Manila Critics Circle para sa mga libro niyang “Kasama” at “Brotherhood."
