About the speaker:
Jimmy Domingo started as a freelance photographer during the Martial Law years in early 1980s while studying Civil Engineering. When he was suspended in school due to student activism involvement in 1982, he took dodumentary photography seriously documenting human rights and social development issues. He continues to freelance until now contributing to local and international publications and wire photo agencies while doing personal stories and commissioned works from various non-government organizations. He studied how to teach photography and photojournalism at the World Press Photo Academy in Amsterdam in 2006 and 2012. He coordinated the Diploma in Photojournalism Program using BLENDED LEARNING for Asian photographers of the Asian Center for Journalism at Ateneo de Manila from 2006-2012. He also handled courses while teaching photography and photojournalism at the Ateneo Department of Communication from 2007 up to 2015. He is currently teaching photography and other photo-related courses at De La Salle University, since 2010. He started teaching photojournalism at the UP Department of Journalism in 2015. Outside teaching duties in universities, he also conducts photography and photojournalism workshops and judge competitions all over the Philippines related to the Campus Journalism program of the Department of Education. Jimmy Domingo is a member of the International Nominating Committee of the Annual Joop Swart Masterclass Program of the Amsterdam-based World Press Photo. He is one of the 11 founding members of the Photojournalists Center of the Philippines (1997), became a chairperson and now the current Vice-chairperson. He is also a member of the Philippine Association of Communication Educators (PACE) and signed up fo the Journalism Studies Association of the Philippines (JSAP).
