The Fear of loss is an emotion manifested by every living soul. Being human, we claw our way through life daily trying to establish control and protect what we rightfully feel is ours. Being Filipino, The idea of the West Philippine Sea collectively sparks public outcry, as what is fittingly ours is slowly slipping away right before our very eyes. While we macroscopically try to make sense of things, love, passion and nationalism just isn’t enough and we are delegated to impotently watch from the sidelines.
As the West Philippine Sea drifts in and out of our consciousness, have we asked what are we trying to protect?
What really lies beneath the West Philippine Sea?
Once a corporate ju**ie for decades, it took a slew of political tussles to literally and figuratively push me to the deep end. No resignation letter sent, I quietly left my corner office, drove out to sea and attempted to live the simple life.
Having a camera is a beautiful thing. It captures unscripted moments in life which are frozen in time. Pretention takes a back seat since every click is truth embedded.
The collection of photographs shared in this photo book is the culmination of the risk I took years back, and ‘a simple life’ it was not. Working with various marine conservation groups, dive centers, magazines and travel companies worldwide, I’ve managed to compile a series of images which beautifully captures the deep end of the West Philippine Sea.
Expect to explore reefs, discover marine wildlife, and dive in with mermaids from the Northwest reefs of Ilocos, Central coasts of Zambales, Bays West of Batangas, Westside of Mindoro, and Southwest waters of Busuanga Palawan.
Ready for the West Philippine Sea.... let go, let’s go, dive with me...
