Toyota AE86 Trueno spotted in Alabang!!!

The AE86, a car that needs little to no introduction. I'm sure the majority of us recognize this car from the anime Initial D, which featured a panda AE86 driven by Takumi on Mount Akina (Mount Haruna Japan). Produced from 1983 - 1987, this car was not fast by any means. Under the hood was a 1.6 liter naturally-aspirated motor, pushing an underwhelming 123 HP and 109 lb-ft of torque. It weighed roughly 910 kg and had a 0-100 km/h time of 8.9 seconds. What made this car such a desirable machine was its appeal to the drift community. It was RWD, it had good steering feedback, it was easy to drift ,the gearbox was precise enough and it was a simple car that could be modified. Keiichi Tsuchiya, a professional drifter was the one responsible for giving this car the majority of its hype. He practiced drifting in the mountains of japan with his humble AE86. He also co-organized the D1 Grand Prix, and his car of choice was no other than the underpowered Toyota.

Honda Civic EK9 spotted in Alabang!!!

The Civic EK9 is one of the most popular 90s performance cars Honda has released. Often referred to as the “big brother” of the EG. The EK9 first made its way to the market in 1997 with roughly 16,241 produced. It was advertised as a sporty performance car with Recaro bucket seats, chassi stiffener bars, a five speed manual, and a seam-welded chassis. Under the hood was a naturally aspirated 1.6 liter B16B engine which produced 182hp and 118 lb-ft of torque at 7,500rpm. This car weighed about 1,070kg and had a 0-60 time of 6.7 seconds. Only 1.1 seconds slower than a stock Mark 7 GTI !

I personally think that the EK9 is a remarkable hatchback. It's fast enough, it gives off a premium feel, is easy to modify, and has a strong aftermarket community. Not to mention that this chassi is quite rare. Even if you had the money to build one, it's pretty challenging to find one in good shape. There is no doubt that the EK9 is one of the pillars of the JDM community. It has been featured in shows such as Fast and Furious 4 and Initial D.

Volkswagen Mark 7 Golf GTI spotted at the Sierra Madre Touge!!!

The VW GTI is without a doubt one of the most iconic cars as its first model had revolutionary tech at the time. It all started with the Mark 1 GTI which was in development in 1974. A few VW staff decided to secretly create a sporty version of the Golf. Among these staff was Anton Konrad (the chief press officer at the time) and Hermann Hablitzel (a board member for technology). One year into the secret development, Hablitzel pitched the idea to Toni Schmücker (the chairman of the board of development). Surprisingly, Toni gave the green light and that's how the iconic hatchback was made. The GTI first came into the market in 1976 with a production of 461,690 units. The car came with 112 PS and had a top speed of 182 km/h. It was one of the most successful compact sports cars the world has seen.

This particular GTI has some tasteful modifications done to it. Such as an ABT piggyback box, cat back borla exhaust, ST coilovers, brembo brake pads and a set of Advan Fleva V701. With these upgrades the car produces 280 HP and can reach a top speed of over 300 km/h as dyno tested. The cornering capability of the car also improved when it was tested at Clark International Speedway. The car is easy to feed into the corners and has no problem managing its power on the exits. The only complaint of the owner is that the turbo lag on this car is quite noticeable as it takes a couple of seconds for the turbo to spool up. Personally, the GTI is one of my favorite German performance cars as it is a perfect blend of performance and functionality.

BMW E30 M3 spotted in the Karrera Showroom parking space!!!

The BMW E30 M3 was the first of its kind during its time. It was built to dominate on the track while still being a comfortable daily driver. This model won numerous races in the German, Australian, European, and British Group A Touring championships. It was also a beast of a machine when it came to rally racing and endurance races. The man behind the design of this car was none other than Claus Luthe, a German born in 1932 who was responsible for designing BMW dream cars. Body-wise, the car's modified C pillars, wide body like fenders and front splitter were all tweaked to divert air onto the large spoiler. In my opinion, this made the car look much more aggressive. Chassi-wise, the trailing arms from the 3-Series were unchanged but the front suspension was entirely different with nothing but performance in mind. Track-oriented coils, dampers, stabilizers, vented front/rear brakes, and lightweight control arms were all added to the M3 to improve its handling. Under the hood was the infamous 2.3L M-Power S14 engine which produced 200hp at 6750 rpm and 170 ft-lb of torque. Combining this with the fact that the car weighed in at 2,500 lbs, came with a clutch type L*D, dog-leg pattern performance gearbox, and had 50/50 weight distribution, it is absolutely mind-blowing for a car created from 1986 to 1991. The BMW E30 M3 was truly on another level from its contemporaries.

Porsche 933 RWB spotted in the Karrera Showroom!!!

RAUH-Welt Begriff aka RWB is a shop in Japan founded by Akira Nakai. This shop is known for modifying Porsches by adding body kits. These kits are often added to the Porsche 930, 964 and 993. In my opinion, this kit gives the car a good blend of aggressiveness and class. The wide fender flares, canards, side skirts, redesigned front end, and mean-looking spoiler makes sure you don't overlook this car. It also gives the body more definition that really lets it stand out. The Porsche badge, timeless headlights and distinctive tail lights on the other hand, preserve the elegant style that makes a Porsche, a Porsche.

There are three major things that make that Porsche 933 such a desirable car. One, it is the final evolution of the 911 air-cooled era. Two, according to PCA, it came with a 3.6 liter air-cooled flat six that made 272hp and 243 lb-ft. While those numbers are underwhelming, keep in mind that this was in 1995. Lastly, the handling is amazing! According to Jim Koscs, the suspension was much better compared to the previous 911 and the AWD system was also improved.
