Pulacan Falls: An Underrated Highway Beauty

Visible from the national highway, this accessible wonder remained to be underappreciated by many locals including myself. The last visit I made to this falls was still way back in 1994 when I accompany my sister for a pictorial. After seeing bloggers from other parts of the country visiting it, I decided to revisit this falls to witness its beauty again. And it turned out to be a good decision.

Pulacan falls offers a great scenery without the tiring trek. It's a quick fix for those who want to spend time with nature without exerting too much effort. With less than 10-minute walk, one could enjoy the view of the multi-layer cascading white waters and the lush greenery surrounding the falls. One may also take a dip and get refreshed from the cold waters in the falls basin.

Getting There:
Pulacan Falls is located in the municipality of Labangan, Zamboanga del Sur, some 15km from Pagadian City. To get there, you may take any public transport passing through Pulacan. Among these are buses, jeepneys and vans from Pagadian going to Molave, Dipolog, Cagayan de Oro, and Ozamis. Just tell the driver to drop you at Pulacan Falls. Landmark for the trail is the concrete tank on the right side of the street in the steeply ascending section of the road in Pulacan. From there, you could follow the trail going to the falls.

Manga Falls: a Quick City Getaway

Manga Falls is two-tier falls located at Brgy. Manga, Pagadian City. It is surrounded by thick forest cover and lush green vegetation giving it a nature-connection-vibe with bunch of fresh air to breathe. It could be considered as city quick getaway as it only requires a few rides and a short trek, which would approximately take an hour, to get there.

Getting There:
Ride a jeepney from Pagadian Integrated Bus Terminal (IBT) to Tricycle Waiting Area beside Mabuhay Bazaar. Fare is 10 pesos. Then, ride a tricycle to Brgy. Tiguma and alight at Tiguma Crossing (across Shell Tiguma). Fare is 15. Alternatively, you can take a tricycle from IBT going to Tiguma Crossing directly. Fare varies depending on your negotiation skills.

From Tiguma Crossing, hire a "habal-habal" going to the jump-off site at Brgy. Manga. Just tell the driver that you're going to the falls. Fare is 40 pesos per person.

From the jump-off, just follow the concrete trail that would lead you to the falls. Hiking is about 15-20 minutes.

Going back to Tiguma, you could negotiate with your "habal habal" driver to fetch you at the jump-off area.
