On borrowed time...

Every airport visit, I make it a habbit of taking pictures of Asiana aircraft. Seeing as their brand will be disappearing in the near future. While it'll take time for all Asiana aircraft to be repainted into Korean Air's livery, snapping a pic of as much Asiana planes seems more like archiving in a sense for the inevitable time when the colorful Asiana tails dissapear for good.

Some parts of Asiana are already disappearing. For example, some seats on their A350s were re-upholstered to feature the designs of Korean Air's new branding.

Still in style!

Before Etihad introduced their bold (and what I think is one of the most iconic liveries out there) 'Face of Abu Dhabi' livery, their aircraft were painted in an equally striking sand-colored fuselage with gold and red stripes across the fuselage and a stylized UAE flag on the tail alongside a golden falcon.

The classic logo was eventually replaced in 2017 and has been disappearing gradually from the Etihad fleet so it's always a treat to see it before they're completely gone from the skies!

Not your typical SQ A350.

Most of you will know that Singapore Airlines sends their 'regional'/'medium-haul' A350s to Manila. Those A350s carry the registration '9V-SH_'. This A350- registered 9V-SJG is one of SIA's 'long-haul' A350s.

These long-haul A350s feature a tri-class cabin with business and premium economy seats that were introduced in 2013. You'll know if you're flying a long-haul A350 if the registration is 9V-SM_/9V-SJ_.

Fun fact, the long-haul A350s with the 9V-SM_ registration reuse registration numbers that belonged to SQ's 747-400s. A350s with the 9V-SJ_ registration reused registrations that belonged to their A340-300s while A350ULRs with the 9V-SG_ registration reused their A340-500s registrations.

Reusing registrations is a common practice at airlines. Qantas does the same thing. Their A330-200s reuse registrations their classic 747s had while their A321XLRs reuse registrations their 767-300s used.

Singapore Airlines plans to replace their regional A350s on their SQ912/919 services to Manila. This change took effect on March 29th and is set to remain until October 2026. Business class passengers can enjoy a wider seat while economy passengers can pay an extra fee to reserve the premium economy seats which are sold as economy on these shorter routes.

Long Range Leader returns 🤩

After 16 hours in the air, overflying the US East Coast, Canada, Greenland, Russia, Mongolia, China, and Luzon, Southeast Asia's first A350-1000 arrives back home- topped off with a golden sunrise to greet it.

It's been three months since RP-C3510 was delivered to PAL. Looking ahead, PAL plans to retain their A350-1000 service to JFK and plans to send the A350-1000s to Toronto in late May. Does this mean that PAL's second A350-1000 is nearing delivery? 👀 Keep your eyes peeled- especially towards planespotter pages based in Tolouse!

To T3 JAL goes!

As of today, JAL will move operations to Terminal 3 at Manila- ending decades of operations at Terminal 1. This move is part of the NAIA's rehabilitation and decongestion project

If I remember correctly, when the first set of foreign airlines were moving to T3, JAL insisted on staying at T1 because they'd just renovated their Sakura Lounge at T1.

T1 still hosts a variety of foreign airlines like Korean Air, Asiana, EVA, China Airlines, Saudia, Kuwait Airways, and Air India among others. When they will move to T3 remains unclear.

I'll certainly miss when their 787s taxiied into T1's inner gates- closest to the departures drop-off ramp!

Sayonara, Zippy!

Effective today, Zipair will end flights between Tokyo Narita and Manila- citing 'market conditions' as the reason for suspension.

The route was launched in July 2023 alongside Zipair's regional routes like Bangkok, Singapore, and Seoul.

It's sad to see Zipair go. I was hoping to fly with them if ever I went to Japan since they had cheaper fares than JAL- but still gave you the chance to fly a 787.

While not confirmed, it seems that Zipair's slot in Manila might go back to JAL- possibly restoring their JL741/742 service.

Farewell Zipair! Until we meet again! 🥺

Fresh out of the paint shop!

After spotting Korean Air's 777s painted in their new livery twice, I was actually excited to see the old livery on a 777-300(ER) for the first time.

Imagine my suprise that as KE621 came to land, I see a 777 with the new livery! At that time, FlightRadar images showed HL8209 in the old livery which meant that it must've just been repainted- prompting me to check it's flight history.

Sure enough, HL8209 had only just left the paint shop at Busan the day before 😅. It'd flown the evening KE623/634 flight to Incheon to Manila and back on the 11th before flying back to Manila as KE621 the day after.

Suprise aside, look at her, she's glowing ✨️. I wonder what the A380s will look like in the new livery 👀.

Philippine Airlines turns 85!

On this day, 85 years ago, a Beechcraft Model 18 took off from Manila bound for Baguio marking the beginning of Philippine Airlines. Ever since then, PAL has connected Filipinos to the world and the world to the Philippines.

Through highs and lows, PAL has continued it's mission of serving the Philippines. They've come a long way- from declaring bankruptcy because of the pandemic- to receiving their first A350-1000, upgrading their A321s, and anticipating more deliveries and upgrades in the next few years.

The future looks exciting for PAL! I look forward to seeing what's in store for them in the next few years! Happy 85th anniversary, PAL!

Cebu Pacific turns 30!

On this day 30 years ago, Cebu Pacufic had it's first flight from Manila to Cebu with a DC-9. Since then, they've ade flying more affordable and accessible for more Filipinos- bringing more people to and from the Philippines.

From it's humble beginnings, Cebu Pacific has grown to the largest airline in the Philippines- with plans for more growth. From it's early fleet DC-9s and 757s, Cebu Pacific operates an ATR and Airbus fleet- with plans to operate an all-NEO Airbus fleet in the future.

Happy 30th anniversary, Cebu Pacufic! Cheers to making flying more affordable for EveryJuan! 💛💙

Link restored!

Last October, India and the Philippines were finally reconnected by air after a decade.

Air India flies 5x weekly to Manila using A321neos. These A321neos were inherited from their merger with Vistara- the airline born out of a joint venture with Tata Sons and Singapore Airlines. I hope to see their current livery soon (hopefully in daylight too 😅).

Philippine Airlines used to fly to Delhi via Bangkok with A330s or A320s, but discontinued it due to low demand. When PAL received their first A321neos, they planned to restart flights to Delhi and launch flights to Mumbai but never pushed through due to a flare up in tensions between India and Pakistan (and later the pandemic). With PAL set to receive more A321neos this year, they might be able to launch their own flights to India as well.

Little Fokkers 😈

While most Fokker 70s and 100s have long been retired, they are still the backbone of Alliance Airlines' operations- which focuses on Fly-In-Fly-Out (FIFO) services fir the Australian mining industry- alongsude operating regional services for Qantas or Virgin Australia.

VH-NKU is a Fokker 70 that was built in 1995. It flew for Tyrolean Airways, Austrian Arrows, and Austrian Airlines before being acquired by Alliance Airlines in 2015.

VH-XWO is a Fokker 100 that was delivered to USAir in 1989. It flew for Germania and Air Berlin before being acquired by Alliance Airlines in 2011.

I had a chance to fly one of these Fokkers (I can't remember if it was a F70 or F100 😅) from Brisbane to Rockhampton back in 2017 since Alliance Airlines operated some regional flights for Virgin Australia. Unfortunately, I couldn't snag a seat by the engine and was sat all the way up front which was very quiet.

Have you flown on one of these little Fokkers? I'd love to hear your experiences on it!

Farewell, RP-C4160 👋

After nearly three years of diligently flying everyjuan, it's time to bid farewell to ship 4160!

RP-C4160 entered service with Cebu Pacific in May 2023 under a lease agreement. It was brought in as a result of prolonged engine issues for Pratt and Whitney engines found on Cebu Pacific's A320neo family aircraft.

Ship 4160 was originally delivered to Aer Lingus in 2009 and was given the name "St. Macartan." RP-C4160's last revenue service was on February 18- flying from Iloilo to Manila as 5J470. On the 23rd of February, it was ferried to Jakarta where it awaits its fate.

Goodbye and thank you, RP-C4160!
