Today JUNE 12 to commemorate the country's declaration of INDEPENDENCE from Spanish colonial rule in 1898. It is one of the most important national holidays in the PHILIPPINES, Independence of the Philippines means the freedom of the Filipino people from being controlled or ruled by another country. For more than 300 years, the Philippines was ruled by Spain. After that, it was under the United States and later briefly occupied by Japan during World War II. The Filipino people fought many battles and revolutions to be free and govern themselves.
