💯💯💯
I have a child who’s all over the place in the house. One slipper here, the other there. Forgetting what needs to be done next. Needing to be told multiple times in order to get something done without distraction. Constantly and easily distracted by all the tasks she wants to do, forgetting what she need to do!
Most of the time it’s typical excited child energy. Always happy and enthusiastic, wanting to do multiple things at once. It can be exhausting on my end. Keeping up. Constantly reminding. Thinking of ways to make sure the important things get done or remembered!
But then at gymnastics, I noticed my child only needed to be called once. Told once. Instructed once. Even if the coach was far away, one name call and my child looked, listened, and got the task done immediately.
And i was like hm. Huh. Well. How’d that happen?
Is it environment?
Is it the coach’s authority?
Is it being with others who are better than her and wanting to be the same?
Is it awareness of rules and expectations?
Is it fear?
Am I the problem!? Is it me!?
Whatever the reason, this is why I require my children in sport.
Discipline. Focus. Attention to detail. Working on themselves. Ability to respect rules and authority. Perseverance. Grit.
Seeing how our children respond and behave with theirs teachers and coaches are good indicators of the kind of kids they are and what they are capable of doing.
“Hindi siya ganyan sa bahay” and that’s okay. The home is and always will be a safe space. Even if it drives Mama just a little bit crazy 🙄🤪
