Ang Kabilin

Ang Kabilin We write stuff, share news (mostly), and let students say what they want... sort of.

From school events (that we probably went to) to student opinions (that may or may not be ours), we bring you stories that matter... or at least we think they do. πŸ€”

On the 40th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution, which culminated on February 25, 1986, Obat High School (OHS) joins the nation in commemorating a defining moment in Philippine history that restored democracy and freedom.

The historic four-day uprising along Epifanio de los Santos Avenue, now widely known as the EDSA Revolution, marked the peaceful culmination of years of resistance against the dictatorship of Ferdinand Marcos Sr. and the abuses committed during the period of Martial Law. It also paved the way for the presidency of Corazon Aquino and the restoration of democratic institutions in the country.

OHS honors the bravery, unity, and enduring spirit of the Filipino people who stood together in prayer, protest, and peaceful action during this pivotal chapter of our history.

In this spirit of remembrance, we invite everyone to engage with selected resources that revisit the Martial Law period and the EDSA Revolution. While not exhaustive, the list aims to spark deeper interest, encourage critical reflection, and promote continued discourse on these defining chapters of national and local history:

1. Batas Militar – A 1997 documentary chronicling the Martial Law era in the Philippines.
Watch it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UIAtIQ7bnnY&t=5s

2. Edsa 20: Isang Larawan – A documentary by Philippine Daily Inquirer marking the 20th anniversary of EDSA in 2006.
Watch it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UdcuiX0ytPo&t=82s

3. The Final Hours: Edsa People Revolution – A documentary by GMA Integrated News capturing the final hours that led to the fall of the Marcos dictatorship.
Watch it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mTLVQRzzceY&t=33s

Everyone is encouraged to explore these materials, reflect on the lessons of history, and actively contribute to preserving truthful narratives and informed discussions on Martial Law and the EDSA Revolution.
