Asia Cup 2022: Naseem, on Wednesday, stunned the whole world with his sensational performance with the bat

Javed Miandad (L) and Naseem Shah (R) — PCB
KARACHI: Pakistan batting great Javed Miandad has pitched in his thought about Naseem Shah's heroics against Afghanistan in their Super Four clash at the Dubai International Stadium on Thursday.

Naseem, on Wednesday, stunned the whole world with his sensational performance with the bat, as he smashed two maximums off Fazalhaq Farooqi's last over to guide Pakistan to victory at the Dubai International Stadium.

Meanwhile, Javed, who is renowned for striking a famous last-ball six against India in Sharjah in 1986 when six runs were required off the last ball, reflected on Naseem's two sixes that led Pakistan to the final.

"The important thing was that he [Naseem] read the situation very well and bravely planned and finished. I planned [recalling his historic six against India in 1986] the same as he did. But, what Naseem did is laudable.

"He was so focused on the situation and prepared to hit, which is why he delivered."

The former cricketer also heaped praise on the Pakistan team for beating Afghanistan and qualifying for the final.

Pakistan will take on Sri Lanka in their last Super Four clash at the Dubai International Stadium on Friday.

"Asif breached Article 2.6 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “using a gesture that is obscene, offensive or insulting during an International Match” while Fareed was found to have breached Article 2.1.12, which relates to “inappropriate physical contact with a Player, Player Support Personnel, Umpire, Match Referee or any other person (including a spectator) during an International Match," stated ICC.

They have been fined 25 percent of their match fees.

Pakistan will take on Sri Lanka in the final of the T20 Asia Cup 2022 on September 11 in Dubai.

KARACHI: Pakistani pacer Naseem Shah decided to auction the bat that he used against Afghanistan in the ongoing T20 Asia Cup 2022 clash on Wednesday.

Naseem, on Wednesday, stunned the whole world with his sensational performance with the bat, as he smashed two maximums off Fazalhaq Farooqi's last over to guide Pakistan to victory at the Dubai International Stadium.

After helping Pakistan win, Naseem has now decided to put the bat, with which he played and hit those two massive sixes, on auction and will use the money generated to help the flood affectees of Pakistan.

It is worth mentioning here that Naseem borrowed fellow pacer Mohammad Hasnain's bat during the match against Afghanistan.

The PCB shared a video where Hasnain gifts the bat to Naseem, who announced that he will put the bat on auction and donate the money to the unfortunate flood affectees of Pakistan.

Naseem's two sixes assisted Pakistan to victory, while confirming the departure of India and Afghanistan from the Asian event

Barcelona will be wary of Bayern Munich considering their history
FC Barcelona manager Xavi sounded confident ahead of the club's Champions League campaign. Barcelona were knocked out in the group stage of the last season forcing them to play in the Europa League, a competition that the club has not been a part of for many years.

Barcelona have started off their campaign in a good note, but will face tough competition in the Group of Death which houses the likes of Bayern Munich and Inter Milan.

"We will compete and dream big. Otherwise, I would have stayed at home," Xavi told a news conference on the eve of Wednesday's opening Group C game against Viktoria Plzen.

"Why can't we win this competition? Barca is about winning. I like to win, I can't conceive competing without winning.

"Being favourites is something else. You have to be humble. Every match is going to be a war. We haven't won a Champions League title here since 2015."

Barcelona have done well in LaLiga since their scratchy opening game. New signings Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha and Jules Kounde have given the club strong wins in the recent weeks.

"I see every day how the fans are. The jerseys have sold out, people stop us and cheer us on the street. We have to keep going, it's a positive feeling," Xavi said.

"We welcome the pressure here, there is pressure every day when you are at Barcelona.

"We have won five Champions League titles under pressure. Dreaming about winning again is not adding pressure."

Xavi is aware that the first group game at home against the group's weakest team in Viktoria Plzen could be tricky, with matches against Bayern and Inter Milan to come.

"I know that people see us as the favourites, but they (Plzen) are a very physical, very hard working team. It's a trap game," he said.

"For now we need to be focused on our goal which is advancing to the knockout stage. We have to reach at least the last 16 in such a difficult competition and a very complicated group.

"The objectives, however, are winning titles, but for tomorrow we have to win in our debut," the manager concluded.
