NADRA has introduced a new Made-in-Pakistan, chipless QR code-based National Identity Card, replacing the imported microchip with a secure QR code that can be verified through the PakID mobile app using an ordinary smartphone.
The new card will also display the family number and special identification symbols for senior citizens, persons with disabilities, organ donors and citizens of Azad Jammu & Kashmir, while names and addresses will appear in both Urdu and English.
Being introduced in phases from 14 August 2026, the new system will gradually cover NICOP, Juvenile Cards and eventually POC. Existing cards will remain valid until their expiry dates.
A major step towards self-reliance, secure digital verification and easier identity authentication in Pakistan.
