Goraknath Temple is one of the few surviving Hindu temples in Peshawar, Historical sources further tell us that a Shahi mosque was built here in 1641 AD. After the Sikh occupation of Peshawar in early 19th century the mosque was razed and it was replaced with a temple built around 1834-1849 AD. This worship site remained a center for Hindu ritual practices until a few decades ago. Original fresco work and paintings of varied Hindu deities still survive in the temples interior
