I’ve lost my spirit.
This phrase may seem simple compared to the helplessness and disappointment I feel, but it’s the closest I can come to describing this heaviness that has weighed on me for nearly a month.
I don’t know when the days began to lose their color, but they’ve become grayer than they should be. Dust-covered faces, hearts worn down by waiting, and people whose lives are now consumed by a single question: How do we go on living?
Getting water has become a struggle, and perhaps that struggle is now greater than witnessing a person fighting for their last moments under bombardment that transcends the bounds of humanity and reason.
And the eyes of children longing for a chicken meal ache more than the thought of studying and excelling, because a child searching for today’s meal doesn’t have the luxury of thinking about a distant tomorrow.
Pain in everything…
The pain of fire, the pain of loss, the pain of waiting, and the pain of the question to which no one has an answer: What does tomorrow hold?
I have reached the utmost depths of despair and frustration—not because I am weak, but because I am weary of watching the days pass without anything changing. It’s as if the hourglass has stopped, while our lives continue to drift toward the unknown, as if the only thing that finds its way to us is pain.
I’m tired of pain becoming the norm, of mere survival becoming an achievement, and of waking up every day not knowing what this day will take from us.
Maybe that’s why I feel like I’ve lost my soul…
Not because it’s gone, but because it’s grown weary of searching for something that resembles life, in a place where there is no longer
