There’s a particular kind of silence in Oslo.
Not empty. Not cold. But full — like the city is holding its breath.
When I walked through its streets with my camera, the light often guides me — soft, slanting, fleeting. It lands gently on faces, windows, footsteps, and I follow.

In those quiet corners, time seems to slow.
I don’t chase moments. I wait.
Because here, the silence speaks — in gestures, glances, and spaces between people.
And somehow, in that stillness, stories reveal themselves.

That’s what street photography in Oslo feels like for me:
a search not for noise, but for presence. For fragments of peace stitched into the rhythm of the everyday.

Mbye Ebrima é um talentoso korista, compositor e contador de histórias, nascido em 1988, em Jarra Soma, Gâmbia. Descendente de uma família Jali, carrega consigo o legado da tradição mandinka-kaabunké.

Com uma carreira que une tradição e inovação, Mbye tem se apresentado em festivais internacionais e, desde que se fixou em Portugal em 2015, tem colaborado com diversos artistas, criando diálogos entre a música da África Ocidental e sonoridades contemporâneas.

Mais do que um artista, Mbye sonha com a criação de uma escola-residência dedicada à kora na Gâmbia — um espaço de aprendizagem e preservação cultural para jovens músicos. Um projeto que homenageia seu pai, Alagi Mbye, um dos grandes mestres da kora, conhecido por ter acolhido e ensinado alunos do mundo inteiro.

Mbye Ebrima is a talented kora player, composer, and storyteller, born in 1988 in Jarra Soma, Gambia. A descendant of a Jali family, he carries the legacy of the Mandinka-Kaabunké tradition.

With a career that blends tradition and innovation, Mbye has performed at international festivals and, since settling in Portugal in 2015, has collaborated with various artists, creating dialogues between West African music and contemporary sounds.

More than an artist, Mbye dreams of creating a kora school-residency in Gambia — a space for young musicians to learn and preserve their cultural heritage. The project is a tribute to his father, Alagi Mbye, one of the great kora masters of his generation, known for welcoming and teaching students from around the world.

Nascida na Gâmbia, Mariama Saho é uma das vozes mais marcantes da tradição Jali. Herdeira de uma linhagem griot, cantou ao lado do marido Alagi Mbye e integrou o Conjunto Nacional da Gâmbia, levando a cultura Mandinga além-fronteiras. Hoje, aos 62 anos, vive em Talinding e continua a preservar, com voz e presença majestosa, a alma viva dos Jali.

Born in The Gambia, Mariama Saho is one of the most powerful voices of the Jali tradition. Heir to a griot lineage, she performed alongside her husband Alagi Mbye and was part of The Gambia’s National Ensemble, taking Mandinka culture beyond borders. Now 62, she lives in Talinding, where her voice and majestic presence continue to keep the spirit of the Jali alive.

Lamin Kamaso, mestre Jali nascido a 8 de março de 1965 em Fuladou Kerewan Donbokono, é um guardião da tradição griot na Gâmbia.

Com a sua Kora, tem inspirado gerações — incluindo os seus filhos, Muhamadou e Malaine, que seguem o legado da família. Uma vida dedicada à música, à história e à alma do seu povo.
