📍- Risco Waterfall
🇵🇹 - 𝗟𝗼𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Madeira • Portugal
✏️ - 𝗙𝘂𝗻 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝘁: Among the products that Madeira became initially known for exporting included the three main staples of wheat, sugar and wine. Fun fact: Sugar actually became so important to Madeira´s economy and commerce that the locals began calling the sweet crop “white gold.”
🌿 - 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀: Risco Waterfall is a must see when traveling to Madeira! The hike is relatively short and as you can see the trail ends with incredible views. We spent the entire day exploring other unique waterfalls and levada trails after visiting Risco. This was one of my favorite places to fly my drone! It truly felt as if we were immersed in the jungle during the Jurassic period.

📍- Porto Santo
🇵🇹 - 𝗟𝗼𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Madeira • Portugal
✏️ - 𝗙𝘂𝗻 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝘁: Right in the Atlantic Ocean, Porto Santo, 11km long and 6km wide, has been long dubbed the Golden Island, for its extensive, stunning 9km-long beach of fine and silky sand, bathed by turquoise waters.
🏝️ - 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀: A trip to Madeira is not complete without visiting Porto Santo. The ocean was truly crystal clear everywhere you looked. This photo was taken while eating at a local restaurant called La Siesta. Such a beautiful hidden gem with a walkway leading right up to this beautiful spot. I do recommend planning ahead and booking the ferry or flight to the island as this is a very popular destination amongst the locals as well as tourists.

📍- Porto Santo
🇵🇹 - 𝗟𝗼𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Madeira • Portugal
✏️ - 𝗙𝘂𝗻 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝘁: Porto Santo was the first Portuguese discovery in the 15th century. This island marked the beginning of the great age of the discoveries launched by Prince Henry the Navigator. Years later, Christopher Columbus stayed on the island for a while and prepared his voyage of discovery to America.
🌤️ - 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀: Visiting Porto Santo was one of the best highlights of our trip! It is a sister island, closely neighboring the main island of Madeira. We stumbled upon the restaurant, , and it ended up being one of our favorite spots due to the stunning views and delicious food. I typically only share landscape photography / videography, but this photo pulls me back into a moment of serenity—enjoying a cocktail and listening to the peaceful ocean waves wash up along the shore.

📍- Madeira
🇵🇹 - 𝗟𝗼𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Madeira • Portugal
✏️ - 𝗙𝘂𝗻 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝘁: Maderia is a semi-tropical island and as a result of its mountainous terrain, this gives the island six distinct climate zones! The Laurissilva Forest is at the highest point of the island and has been labelled as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
🌄 - 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀: There’s nothing more majestic than watching a sunrise in the mountains. Madeira has so many stunning locations and viewpoints to explore. Capturing the mountain’s layers was one of my favorite parts about our trip!

📍- Ilheus da Janela
🇵🇹 - 𝗟𝗼𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Madeira • Portugal
✏️ - 𝗙𝘂𝗻 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝘁: Madeira island is home to Europe’s tallest sea cliff, more than 1,900 feet above the sea — Cabo Girão.
🌅 - 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀: We couldn’t have asked for better weather and sunsets while we were in Madeira. This lookout point was right off the main road and incredibly easy to get to. I can always appreciate a great view with minimal hiking after a long day out.

📍- Seixal Beach
🇵🇹 - 𝗟𝗼𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Madeira • Portugal
✏️ - 𝗙𝘂𝗻 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝘁: During the 1880’s, immigrants from Madeira introduced the ukulele to the Hawaiian islands. Their ukulele was based on the cavaquinho and the rajao — two small guitar-like instruments from Madeira.
🌊 - 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀: This was by far my favorite beach on the island of Madeira. We spent a few mornings and afternoons here taking in the beauty and relaxing. The lush greenery, black sand and layered mountains towering in the distance reminded me so much of Hawaii. It’s no wonder this island is one of the few that have been nicknamed the “Hawaii of Europe.”

📍- Funchal
🇵🇹 - 𝗟𝗼𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Madeira • Portugal
✏️ - 𝗙𝘂𝗻 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝘁: In Madeira, there are 29 species of cetaceans, both resident and passing, making it one of the areas with the highest density of animals in the Atlantic and Mediterranean Sea. This is due to Madeira location, being point of passage and stop of several cetaceans, as well as turtles. The most common of to see in the sea of Madeira is the Bottlenose Dolphin. Researchers estimate that 125 animals of these species permanently inhabit Madeira’s waters, except those that come in passing.
🐬 - 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀: Bucklist item alert! Swimming with wild dolphins has been on my bucketlist for years. What better place to do this than in Madeira? It was so cool to hear and listen to the dolphins while being submerged underwater. I’ve always found dolphins so playful and intriguing. Such a cool experience!

📍- Fanal Forest
🇵🇹 - 𝗟𝗼𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Madeira • Portugal
✏️ - 𝗙𝘂𝗻 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝘁: The magical Fanal Forest is part of the Laurisilva forest which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its ecological importance and beauty.
⛰ - 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀: Fanal Forest was one of the coolest places I’ve ever seen! Nestled in the clouds, this mystical forest was perfect for drone videography and photography. We captured some amazing footage that I can’t wait to share very soon!

📍- Praia da Ribeira da Janela
🇵🇹 - 𝗟𝗼𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Madeira • Portugal
✏️ - 𝗙𝘂𝗻 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝘁: When explorers first came to Madeira in 1420, they believed the dark looming cliffs of the archipelago signalled the gates of hell. Nowadays, they characterise the island's natural beauty.
⛰ - 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀: Iceland or Madeira? I was surprised to see such similarities between the two! We loved the diverse landscape of Madeira and the stunning views such as this.

📍- Seixal Beach
🇵🇹 - 𝗟𝗼𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Madeira • Portugal
✏️ - 𝗙𝘂𝗻 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝘁: Madeira is famous for the wine that bears its name and, today, is produced in a number of varieties. Vineyards on the island were once managed by Jesuit priests. Madeira wine can be a dry table wine, a sweet dessert wine, or rich after-dinner drink.
🌄 - 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀: Seixal Beach was by far my favorite beach on the entire island. The dark volcanic sand created such a beautiful reflection once the waves retreated back into the sea. Here we enjoyed the peaceful sunrise and watched the island fully wake up. This beach is packed during the day, so if you’re looking for relaxing views and experiences like this I recommend arriving first thing in the morning.

📍- Seixal Beach
🇵🇹 - 𝗟𝗼𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Madeira • Portugal
✏️ - 𝗙𝘂𝗻 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝘁: Tourism accounts for more than 20 percent of Madeira’s GDP. Approximately 1.4 million tourists visit Madeira each year, including more than 500,00 visitors arriving in Funchal via a cruise ship.
🌄 - 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀: Sunrise or sunset? I feel like the majority of us are sunset lovers, but my preference and favorite would actually be sunrises! Watching a sunrise makes me feel accomplished for waking up so early and also at peace while listening to the world around me wake up and come alive. While traveling, beautiful places such as beaches are always packed during the sunset hours, but sunrise tends to be less busy! On this particular early morning we had only two other people on one of the most popular beaches in Madeira. It was perfect for capturing photos and disturbing a minimal amount of people with my drone.
