A vibrant Grasshopper in the Los Cedros cloud forest, Ecuador.

One of the most Impressive insects (and there were many!) I encountered in Ecuador.

- Their long antennae help them detect vibrations, humidity, chemicals, and movement in dense rainforest environments.

- The Los Cedros cloud forest is one of the most biodiverse places on Earth and many insect species there are still undocumented or rarely photographed.

- Grasshoppers can jump up to 20 times their body length using powerful hind-leg muscles that work like loaded springs.

Spectrum of Verde. 
Being immersed in the Amazon rainforest and the Los Cedros cloud forest shows you the full spectrum of green on display in nature: endless tones, textures and layers. Which is your favourite?

Most leaves look green because chlorophyll absorbs red and blue light for photosynthesis, and what gets reflected back is the part we call green. So every shade here is basically “leftover light”.

Green also tends to feel the easiest colour to look at: our visual system is most sensitive around ~555 nm (yellow-green). That means for the same physical brightness, greenish light can look brighter/clearer to us, so it can feel less effortful to look at.
