PT - Há fotografias que acontecem porque tudo estava planeado.
E depois há aquelas que acontecem porque, naquele preciso instante, decidimos arriscar.
Nesta fotografia, a diferença esteve precisamente aí.
Enquanto todos olhavam para o momento de uma determinada perspetiva, decidi mudar de posição, procurar outro ângulo, outra leitura daquele instante. Um pequeno movimento, aparentemente sem importância, que acabou por revelar algo que poderia facilmente ter passado despercebido.
O braço do padre estendido sobre os noivos, num gesto que pode parecer simples, mas que, através desta perspetiva, ganhou uma força completamente diferente.
De repente, aquele braço tornou-se uma espécie de elo entre o celebrante e o casal. Um gesto de bênção, de proteção, de união… quase como se, por breves segundos, toda a cerimónia estivesse concentrada naquele movimento.
É isto que muitas vezes procuramos na fotografia de casamento.
Não apenas registar aquilo que está a acontecer, mas procurar aquilo que pode acontecer na imagem quando mudamos o nosso olhar.
Porque fotografar também é arriscar.
É sair do lugar onde todos estão, procurar uma perspetiva que ainda não existe e confiar que, do outro lado da objetiva, poderá estar uma imagem única.
E foi precisamente isso que aconteceu aqui.
E uma fotografia que dificilmente teria existido se eu tivesse ficado no mesmo lugar.
EN - There are photographs that happen because everything was planned.
And then there are those that happen because, at that precise moment, we decide to take a risk.
In this photograph, that is precisely where the difference lay.
While everyone else was viewing the moment from a specific perspective, I decided to change my position, to look for a different angle, a different interpretation of that instant. It was a small, seemingly insignificant movement that ended up revealing something that could easily have gone unnoticed.
The priest’s arm extended over the bride and groom, a gesture that might seem simple, yet took on a completely different power from this perspective.
Suddenly, that arm became a kind of link between the officiant and the couple. A gesture of blessing, protection, and union... almost as if, for a few brief seconds, the entire ceremony was concentrated in that single movement.
This is often what we look for in wedding photography.
It is not just about recording what is happening, but seeking out what can emerge in the image when we shift our perspective.
Because photography is also about taking risks.
It means stepping away from where everyone else is standing, seeking a perspective that doesn't yet exist, and trusting that a unique image might be waiting on the other side of the lens.
And that is precisely what happened here.
It resulted in a photograph that likely never would have existed had I stayed in the same spot.
