“Her Majesty”| In all of her grandeur there she was, Her Majesty Kirkjufell mountain, posing elegantly and creating endless awe in all her admirers. I trembled before such an incredible vision and, after bowing in humble reverence, tried to capture her the best I could.

One of the photos taken during the morning of the second day in Iceland, on my September 2014 trip. After having the honor of witnessing a fantastic Northern Lights display during the previous night, I still had to spend some more time in this incredible place during the morning, before heading to Hvitserkur. The weather was densely overcast, so it was a good opportunity for very long exposures and playing with shapes and reflections.

Bem hajam! 🌍

"Awakening" | Photo made in the Italian Dolomites, showing an unusual angle of the famous Braies Lake.

The sunrise was bursting on the background, strongly contrasting with the secluded area where I was shooting from, eagerly waiting to be bathed in sunlight. The snow covered logs remind me of cocoons, a perfect symbol of a dormant humanity longing for the much deserved re-awakening.

May we rise and begin a new better life, closer to the Earth, and thus closer to ourselves

“The Doubt” | “Life is made of so many potential paths. Choose wisely, and never forget to leave some space for the soul to breathe...”

Story:
An image from the unique palafite pier in Portugal, one of the few remaining palafite constructions in the world, used by Portuguese fishermen to keep their boats anchored.

The Carrasqueira pier has hundreds of meters of extension, swirling and branching above the sea, creating remarkable compositions during sunset.

This is a place filled with memories, history, symbolism and so much beauty. Progressively changing with sea erosion, each image is unrepeatable. As the sea slowly degrades the wood structures, every now and then some of the branches disappear into the sea, including the iconic final part, where the end of the pier branches into two distinct paths, with the right one being virtually non-existent nowadays. Quite often different types of wood planks are used to replace the old ones, so this is an ever changing dynamic structure.

There is an overall consensus that the pier reached its most interesting aesthetic appeal from 2013 till 2018, the period during which these images were made. Coincidentally, this place became world famous after 2018, being since then usually crowded at sunset with dozens of photographers competing for the scarce available space. I feel fortunate to having witnessed and photographed it in pure “silence” and freedom during its “golden age”

Technique: 30 seconds single long exposure technique

“Far Enough to Escape” | One of those rare pristine places on Earth, far enough from a civilised parking spot, hidden behind a long steep descent, keeping its treasures away from the crowds.

Erosion created some incredible magic on this place, carving enormous rocks and creating one of the most beautiful beachs in the world. Located right by the famous Cabo da Roca, the westernmost point of the European Continent, near Lisbon, this is Ursa Beach, one of the most stunning coastline gems of Portugal.
