Dawnpatrol... surfing at dawn it’s always a mixed feelings between getting up early, still dark outside and dress the wetsuit in the freezing morning and surfing almost alone and enjoy the unique colors or the sunrise in the ocean, which has no price. Believe me.

In the end you get what you payed for and it’s almost always the best way to start any day, let alone a working day.

Collect moments, not things

🇬🇧Happiness is neither an immutable nor a monolithic state. It is a set of micro-states whose associated physiological reactions are manifested in our body in the form of discharges of molecules in our brain such as serotonin, dopamine and oxytocin. We are able to reach these states in the smallest pleasures of life, or in the most transcendental experiences. In reality, the old cliché that happiness is not in the destination, but in the journey, is just an allegory about what I mentioned before and that makes perfect sense.

Surfing has been an inexhaustible source of mental balance and motivation since I was 17 years old. Unfortunately for the last 5 or 6 years I walked away from it completely, unmotivated, unwilling. Fortunately, in September 2019 I decided to change course, lost 17kgs, started climbing and trail running. A fractured ankle last December, had the power to make me start surfing again, as the first sport I felt safe doing after the injury. Two surf sessions, 17kgs lighter and a handful of waves, were enough for the stoke to comeback. And how I missed thinking about surfing ... day and night. How I missed to be able to get up at 7 am knowing that I will catch some waves with just my friends and maybe 2 or 3 early risers, and have as a bonus, in the absence of wind, the contemplation of a velvety sea without the edge of crispness except for the perfect swell lines entering each set, with the first rays of morning sun turning the water into liquid gold. I no longer remembered how surfing was a source of micro-states of happiness that allowed me to face everyday life with another smile. @ Praia de Carcavelos

The waving plains of Alentejo under the Milky Way

“Look up at the stars and not down at your feet. Try to make sense of what you see, and wonder about what makes the universe exist. Be curious.”
Stephen Hawking

Have you ever looked directly to a black hole? You are seeing one right now, looking to the center of the Milky Way in the Sagittarius constellation (please check my last MW post to find Sagittarius) lies Sagittarius A, the massive black hole that keeps our galaxy together. You don’t really see it directly, but you see it’s influence: the 400 billion star cluster we call Milky Way. 🌌

🇬🇧At the highest point of mainland Portugal, on a mild August night, the Milky Way "hunting" season is coming to an end. The Milky Way disk plane is already quite inclined almost vertically, and the center of the Milky Way is already quite close to the horizon. The set consisting of the Rho Ophiuchi nebula complex and the red supergiant Antares in the constellation of Scorpio, one of the most interesting regions on the periphery of the central plane of the Milky Way, are no longer even visible, being below the horizon.
The high altitude is always advantageous for astro shots for greater clarity and detail, even so, some scattered clouds appeared.
This was a photo I had idealized two or three years ago, and 2020 was the year.

🇬🇧Photos of our last hike through the Serra da Gardunha, this time to the iconic Castelo Velho and Cabeço do Galo, where we had not yet been, much less hiking. Recently installed, the Baloiço do Castelo Velho has become a very "instagramable" tourist attraction (similar to the famous Baloiço de Trevim, in the Serra da Lousã) and with a fabulous view over the Beira Baixa plains until the Spanish border. Access by car is possible, but not advised; otherwise the walk is well worth it, because only then can you find true natural and historical treasures along the way.
