A few weekends ago, I drove 45 mins South for a shoot with The Ling’s. I had pitched a maternity shoot in Sept / Oct 2022 when Nurjan was in her last few months of pregnancy. But it kept getting delayed due to one thing or another. So I was happy to finally be able to do it.

The fact that they live 5 minutes from the beach was a huge plus and I already knew I’d like to head there. The epic sunset, soft salty breeze and waves crashing on the beach made the whole experience so dreamy 🥰.

don’t show their children’s faces directly.

Here’s a sneak peek from my first photo session since moving to Australia. This is the stunning Nurjana with her son, Senai on the beach at sunset.

We first met through the Bahá’í community more than 10 years ago while she was working as an Emirates Airline crew member in Dubai. And we’ve kept in touch as she got married and expanded her family. I’ve always admired her gentle parenting approach and she was the one who introduced me to Montessori principles. I’m thrilled we ended up in the same city again and our kids can grow up together.

One thing that is clear to me is that I am genuinely inspired by the beauty of the Australian landscape. It has given me a new spark I haven’t felt in a long time.

I look forward to sharing more photos from this session soon.

When I first met Sheryl for our pre-consultation, I told her that I want to make sure she knows that SHE is the protagonist in our photo session not her kids. I started following her Instagram a year before we met and the adventures she takes her boys Maxi and Alex were a source of inspiration for me. I loved how she lets them explore the natural world and follows their lead. And they are so adept in the kitchen thanks to her patient guidance.

Too often I find that moms are relegated to the last place. They will tell me to “focus on the kids” or “don’t bother with me” because they’re not used to be the centre of attention. Since most of us already have our phone galleries filled to the brim with photos and videos of our children, it is only apt that the spotlight is shed on moms during a photo session.

I love photographing moms so that they look and feel absolutely gorgeous, creating works of art worthy to be seen on the walls of your home.

It was a super windy day last March when I drove to Fuwairit Beach for a session with Sheryl and her boys. By the time we got there is was about noon, not ideal light as there were no clouds in the sky that day, but we made it work.

What I like about that location is that it’s quite deserted and the colour of the water was absolutely pristine 🤩.

I loved witnessing super Mama Sheryl interact with her boys while they are out there in their element. I convinced her to dress up this time as she is usually in shorts and a rash guard when they go on their beach excursions.

I had to work extra fast as both boys wanted to explore and hunt for crabs rather than sit on a rock and smile for me. Luckily Sheryl brought chocolates to bribe them for those shots. I can’t wait to share more gorgeous photos from this shoot.

If you’re caught up in the rush of everyday life and feel like your kids are growing up too fast, then there’s no better way to pause time then to schedule a photo session to capture this moment.

As a mom, I understand what it is like to have kids, the frustrations, the joy, the pain and the heart-expanding love.

A photo session with a stranger can be a stressful thing especially for kids. You want someone who loves kids, is patient and gets the shot. Someone who gets what it is actually like to be a parent, so you don’t find yourself apologising every time they don’t cooperate. They’re kids after all. WE need to be the ones following their lead.

As a professional family photographer, I see this so often, parents feel pressured and want their kids to cooperate so they force their kids to perform and comply during a photo session.

But this isn’t the best way to get those beautiful smiles and natural expressions.

My number ONE tip to parents is to follow the child. I will guide and direct you at the same time if your child isn’t feeling it, we’ll switch gears and change direction.

Kids are very sensitive to our energy and will act out even more if they sense our anxiety. So relax and let’s go with the flow.

This may sound a little dramatic, but when I photograph families, I swear you can see sparks flying. Especially when my clients feel comfortable enough to let their guard down and be themselves, like this gorgeous couple. I always try to steal mummy and daddy away to do some couple photos when the kids are playing, so they can have some special moments captured.

It has been close to 2 months since our family left Qatar. Being back in Malaysia, surrounded by good food, beloved family, having ample support and a chance to rest and reflect has helped me clarify certain things about what I want to do.

As much as I do like photography (and do plan to continue pursuing it), I’ve discovered that I actually LOVE creating content, whether it’s about my family, making funny silly videos, sharing my reflections on parenting and marriage, as well as shining a light on small businesses I genuinely love.

I’ve been thinking so much about what I’d like to do with this account and the small audience I’ve built. So much so, it has kept me up on many nights.

Eighty percent of my followers who responded to my Poll several weeks ago told me they prefer Personal content over Photography content. And it’s almost a split of 40/40 between sharing my real life mom struggles and insights about life.

As such I will be experimenting with different content on my Feed and seeing how it resonates. It will also most likely be less curated as I share some raw moments.

Let me tell you the story of a little girl who grew up to live the life of her dreams. She didn’t become a princess. Instead she became a mom.

Although this life looked a little different than how she pictured it when she was a young girl, it actually turned out way sweeter than anything she could’ve imagined.

It wasn’t filled with tiaras, ball gowns, a Prince Charming and happily-ever-after’s.

Instead it had many sleepless nights, poopy diapers, a never-ending To Do List, school runs, constant guilt and self-doubt.

There were moments of frustration, anger, anxiety and heartbreak in this dream life of hers. But without those, how could she experience the unbridled joy, growth, heart-expanding love and inner peace that also accompanies it?

Were there mistakes made along the way? Too many to count. But without those, how could she have learned of her resilience, courage, intuition and incredible inner strength?

Actually you know this girl. You know her fears, her vulnerabilities, hopes and dreams. because the girl I am talking about is YOU.

You deserve to be seen in all your rawness and glory. You deserve to exist in photos. Let me show you what you mean to the people who consider you as the centre of their world.

I’ve been thinking of my grandma often these days. As she is 97 years old, we know that the end is near and the family has begun to make preparations for the inevitable.

I can’t wait to see her when we head home in a couple of weeks. To hold her hand and look into her eyes. She has provided such comfort and strength to the entire family over the decades as the matriarch of the family.
