It may look like a castle… but it’s actually something else. 🏰
Vlad Țepeș Castle in Carol Park, built in 1906, was originally a water tower disguised as a medieval fortress. Inspired by Vlad the Impaler’s citadel, it later became the headquarters of the National Office for the Cult of Heroes — where history and symbolism quietly meet.

Carol Park, inaugurated in 1906 as part of a national exhibition, is one of Bucharest’s most historic green spaces. The mausoleum, built during the communist era in the 1960s, was originally dedicated to communist leaders, but after 1989 it was transformed into a memorial for fallen heroes. Today, it hosts the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, a powerful symbol of sacrifice. lapasprinbucuresti

George C. Cantacuzino’s monument welcomes visitors at the entrance of Bucharest’s Icoanei Garden, blending history and symbolism. Built in 1904 by French sculptor Ernest Henri Dubois, it honors a prominent liberal politician and founder of the newspaper “Voința Națională.” Surprisingly, it was not destroyed during the communist period. The bronze bust rises above an allegorical figure of the Press, holding a quill and a book marked “Patria.”

🏰 Casa Bosianu – Bucharest’s Hidden Neo‑Gothic Treasure
Tucked away near Carol Park, Casa Bosianu is one of Bucharest’s most intriguing historic villas. Built between 1853 and 1859 in an elegant Neo‑Gothic style by architect Luigi Lipizer, the house once stood among vineyards on what is now Șoseaua Viilor.

More than just a beautiful building, it played a secret role in Romania’s modern history. According to tradition, Alexandru Ioan Cuza was discreetly sheltered here on the eve of January 24, 1859, as political tensions rose around the election that would unite Wallachia and Moldavia. The villa was reportedly turned into a small fortress, complete with guards and reinforced windows, to protect the future ruler.

The house belonged to Constantin Bosianu—lawyer, professor, the first dean of the University of Bucharest’s Faculty of Law, Prime Minister of Romania, and a passionate supporter of the Union. Many of the confidential meetings that shaped the Union are believed to have taken place right inside these walls.

Today, Casa Bosianu remains a quiet witness to the birth of modern Romania, blending political history, architectural charm, and a touch of mystery.
