Remember the outdoor cinema "Tomis Garden"? I do! As I recall all cinemas from my childhood. There is none anymore! Watching a movie was a cultural act. You were going to the cinema as you were going to the theatre. Now, you are doing some shopping and also "consume" a movie in one of the rooms of the mega-malls, with a bucket of popcorn and the related toxic juice.
Who let cinemas die and why? I know the answers as you know them too. For years, the "Tomis Garden" cinema functioned as a tavern in the summer and skating rink in the winter. Today, only the silver berry and ailanthus grow between the rows of chairs and kilometres of abandoned film flutter among piles of debris, human f***s, broken glass and fallen plaster. Light faded but the projectionist's booth is empty. - The death of a cinema - Ilford XP2 Super 400, Nikon FM2n, Color Skopar Voigtlander 28mm, 2.8
