Alright folks, what’s up from the Vietnamese coast! Dima here. 🤘
Local fishermen dropped a real gem today — came back from a night fishing trip with an awesome catch. Got themselves a sailfish, or as the science nerds call it, an Indo-Pacific sailfish. 🇻🇳❤️
You can spot ‘em easy: long-ass bill, massive dorsal fin that looks like a sail — hence the name. Not to be confused with marlin (their “sail” is smaller) or swordfish (their fin’s shorter). So if you see something majestic like that in the water — yeah, that’s a sailfish.
These guys hang out in the Indian Ocean and the western Pacific, and right now they’re on their seasonal migration along our coast near Ninh Thuan / Phan Rang. They come in at 20–50 kg usually, but some beasts hit up to 100 kg. Fishermen usually catch ‘em at night using boat lights, live bait or squid.
As for taste? Sailfish meat is firm, almost boneless. The locals grill it up into steaks, dry it (called *khô cá cờ*), or even serve raw style sashimi. At the market, it’ll run ya around 110–130 thousand VND per kilo (roughly $4.5–5).
