Bugesera District, Rwanda. Delphine Nyinawabo drinks water from a borehole on Sharita Island in Rweru Sector, a remote community that has long faced serious maternal and public health challenges, including limited access to medical check-ups, vaccinations, and safe childbirth services. Since 2016, the Government of Rwanda has been relocating residents from the high-risk island to safer settlements with improved access to healthcare, schools, markets, and other essential services. The borehole pictured remains the only underground water source serving the few families still living on the island.

Kivu Choice, a vertically integrated aquaculture company based in Rwanda, took the title of fastest growing fish farm in Africa this year.

The company’s growth was catalysed by their impressive rehabilitation of Kigembe Fish Farm, a 70-year-old government asset, where they increased production by 70 times in two years and a half.

In an interview with The New Times, Kivu Choice founder and CEO, Kamran Ahmad, said the company has made significant strides this year and has plans to achieve even more. https://www.newtimes.co.rw/article/22607/news/featured/kivu-choice-rwanda-based-firm-is-africas-fastest-growing-fish-farm

Rwandan small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) have called on the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Adjustment Fund to finance agro-processing projects especially those led by women and youth.

Established in 2023 to assist African governments and private actors to trade under preferential tariffs on the continent, the fund will begin disbursements in 2025 with a main focus on manufacturing activities.

The fund , which is domiciled in Rwanda, aims to support governments and the private sector in adjusting to liberalisation, fostering growth, and enabling them to seize the opportunities presented by the AfCFTA market. https://www.newtimes.co.rw/article/22617/news/economy/what-rwandan-smes-expect-from-10bn-afcfta-fund-in-2025
