Back to Pett Level..........on LAND! Where you're least likely to get cut off by the tide!!

This is a wonderful walk, by the way, with a fabulous view of the High Weald sandstone cliffs near Cliff End that marks the meeting point between the flat marshlands of Pett Level and the dramatic rising coastline toward Fairlight and Hastings.

Fossil Hunting: At low tide, the foreshore near Cliff End exposes dinosaur footprints (such as iguanodon), reptile bones, and ancient plant outlines.

Sunken Forest: A 6,500-year-old petrified submerged forest with black tree stumps and fallen logs emerges during low tides.

Historical Wreck: The beach is famously the resting place of the 17th-century warship HMS Anne, scuttled in 1690. Safety Warning: The sandstone cliffs experience active erosion (averaging over 1 meter per year) and can be unstable, so visitors must check tide times and keep a safe distance from the cliff base.
ESPECIALLY THE TIDES....if you don't want to get cut off by it like I did!!😂

Flashback to when the NORTHERN lights came SOUTH!

2024 was a remarkable year for the UK with regards to the Aurora Borealis. Never before had the lights been seen in the UK with such vividness and clarity. Astonishingly, this was the SECOND time they put in an appearance in that year, the first occasion being in May.

THESE images were taken in October, and as much as I'd love to think they might come back, it's quite possible that this really was a once in a lifetime occasion.

When people see these images, they often say they must have been photo-shopped, but if you were fortunate enough to SEE this with your own eyes, you will know that it was infinitely more beautiful and stunning in the flesh.

There's nothing like a remote, exotic, tropical beach.........

And this is NOTHING like a remote, tropical beach! It's the Romney Marsh coastline in all its glory! The distant light ISN'T the sunrise.....it's the glow of street lamps in France, captured this way because of the long exposure times....

Star Bathing at Camber Sands!!!

WAY too hot during the day at the beach! This way you get to relax and have a peaceful paddle! Of course......there's NO ice creams....

St. Clement's Church Old Romney.

St. Clement was the patron saint of sailors and mariners.......and this medieval church was once a settlement port when the sea and the tidal estuary waters of the river Rother flowed here.

The catastrophic Great Storm of 1287 blocked the old mouth of the River Rother and forced it to empty out near Rye instead.The open water retreated, leaving Old Romney stranded inland as New Romney grew closer to the new shoreline.

The graveyard contains the grave of Derek Jarman.

It's just a tree....but my wife loves this tree..........I have photographed it several times. It keeps calling me back to capture its beauty.

So.......I didn't nearly DROWN on this occasion for a change.........but I DID lose my partner.....tripped and fell over 4 groins......rolled down the steep shingle bank twice, smashing my tripod......innumerable bruises and grazes.........

But probably the sharpest, cleanest Milky Way shot I've taken! And my best selling canvas!!

(One really must suffer for one's art.........)
