You don’t have to be a birder to be blown away by this.

Visiting Hornborgasjön during the crane migration is just fantastic!

Thousands of cranes, all together, calling, moving, filling the air with sound.
It’s loud, chaotic, alive… and absolutely unforgettable.

Even if birds aren’t “your thing”, this is one of those natural events that leaves you standing there in silence afterwards, just taking it all in.

This is something you really don’t want to miss.

Where & when to see it:
📍 Hornborgasjön, Sweden (at the viewing area Trandansen)
🗓️ Best time: mid-March to early April
⏰ Go early morning or late afternoon for the most activity

Dress warm, bring binoculars if you have them, and most importantly: take your time.

Have you ever witnessed a wildlife event like this?

Everyone called moving to Sweden brave.
But it never felt like a leap to me.

It felt natural, like stepping into a rhythm I had been missing for a long time.

Watching the seasons change here reminds me how fast time moves.
We’ve been living here for a year and a half already, and sometimes it still surprises me how quickly it all passes.

Of course I miss my friends and family.
Distance is never easy, especially the small things you don’t realise you’ll miss.

But the quiet forests, the open space, the endless views…
They offer a calm I keep reminding myself not to take for granted.

Some choices don’t feel brave.
They feel right.

This walk changed the way I see winter.
These moments were captured in Fulufjället National Park in the heart of winter. It was around –20°C, but somehow it felt like the perfect place to slow down, breathe deeper and simply enjoy what was around us.

Cold air, soft light, quiet paths. Winter has a way of calming the noise if you let it.

Chasing soft mornings.
Unrushed walks.
Warm light.
new friends we met along the way and Good food after a long day outside.

This is what life is about.

Would you walk here with me?

Remember that duck from earlier this week? Meet her partner. It’s almost hard to believe they’re the same species, right?

He’s all about making an impression, while she’s built for blending in. Next time you’re by the water, see if you can spot both it’s a fun challenge for any birdwatcher!

And honestly, every time I see a male goosander, I can’t help but think he looks straight out of a cartoon. There’s something about his bold colors and quirky style that reminds me of the old Looney Tunes days or maybe he’s just waiting for a cameo in a Donald Duck comic. Some birds just have that extra bit of character. Dont you think so?

When the crisp autumn air fills with the calls of whooper swans, you know migration season is winding down.

Here in Värmland, watching these elegant birds head south is always bittersweet. Did you know whooper swans travel thousands of kilometers to their wintering grounds? If you want to catch their farewell, now’s the time. Look to the skies at sunset.

From the Netherlands to Sweden, my bird list keeps growing!

This goosander was a first for me, and right in the city! There’s something special about spotting a new species where you least expect it, especially when the soft morning light turns the water to gold and brings out every detail in their plumage.

It’s moments like these that remind me why I love exploring Swedish nature, camera in hand and eyes wide open. If you’re just starting your own birdwatching journey, don’t overlook the city parks and rivers. sometimes the best surprises are closer than you think.

Ever locked eyes with a wild owl just meters away?

That’s exactly what happened to me in the forests of Värmland today. My heart was pounding as this great gray owl landed right in front of me so close I had to step back to focus! It was startled by a magpie and changed its course at the last second, landing just a few meters away. Have you ever had a wildlife encounter that made you freeze in awe? Share your story below I’d love to hear it!

Familiar faces in the forest, we’ve been following this owl family for a while now, and this young one always catches our eye. There’s something about Great Grey Owls; they’re majestic, a little broody, yet somehow grounded.

This species has quickly become my favourite, so it’s safe to say this won’t be the last time you’ll see a Great Grey Owl on here.

We moved! This summer brought us a new adventure: we bought a beautiful home near Tosseberg, right in the heart of Värmland. And only a few weeks in, the sky gave us the best welcome gift imaginable: the Northern Lights. On Thomas’ birthday, no less. We drove up the mountain and took this shot, with the Milky Way glowing above our new home. It doesn’t get much better than this.
