A few years ago, I had a photo job that I could not talk about for a long time. At that time it felt too big, too exciting, and almost unreal for me.
At Hallands Nyheter, they told me that I would photograph a concert by Jonatan Unge, a famous Swedish comedian, and also take photos for an interview with him and his daughter. I had not lived in Sweden for very long, so it felt like a big challenge.
I was very nervous about my Swedish, about how everything would go, and about talking to a person who is so well known in this country.
In the end, the interview with his daughter did not happen - she decided to cancel the photoshoot. But instead, we talked for almost an hour while the reporter interviewed her father.
She was such a wonderful girl: very open, kind, and easy to talk to. I left with a very warm and strong feeling.
The photoshoot went well, and I remember walking home feeling happy, relieved, and a little proud. It was a big responsibility for me, and I wanted to do my best.
Today, a few years later, I finally decided to share this story here. Now I see that day as a small but important achievement that helped me feel more confident in a new country, with new people and a new culture.
Sometimes our small victories happen when we are scared but keep going anyway.
And this story is one of those victories.
