{do you need to feel confident before being photographed?}
I heard this snippet from one of my favourites, , who’s on my favourite podcast, :
“You can’t convince yourself to be more confident. Confidence isn’t something to aim for. It’s a byproduct of being willing to put yourself in the places where you have no confidence and where you feel vulnerable. Because whether you win or lose, when you have volunteered to put yourself in that position, you gain anyway. Because even if you lose, you gain the evidence that even when it goes wrong, I can survive it.”
I didn’t go into business to be IN FRONT of the camera or to be an influencer.
I wanted to take beautiful photos of amazing women and to give THEM the tools to make showing up easier. The tools that would help them to spread their message and reach the right people.
I wanted to show them the strengths and unique qualities that I could see, when perhaps they were struggling to see them themselves.
But what I soon realised was that it wasn’t enough for my work to speak for itself.
I needed to put myself in my clients’ shoes and put MYSELF out there. Because for me personally, it doesn’t matter how much I love a photographer’s work. If I don’t click with them or feel that I can relax, have fun and truly be myself, I won’t feel or look confident and it will show in the photos.
So OF COURSE, by sharing photos and videos of myself, it’s an invitation to come into my space and get to know me. To see if we’re a good fit. (And even if we don’t work together, I want you to feel good in this space and walk away feeling inspired.)
I don’t always love being in front of the camera, but I DO love the work I do and the clients I help, and that matters more than anything else. It makes showing up so much easier. Because it’s not about me.
And do you know what?
Being in photos myself and being the spokesperson for a different kind of visibility - showing up in a way that feels genuinely good, it’s given me so much confidence.
