When something is done, it’s done properly — with full dedication and 100% heart.
This time, Daina Gāga Ēķe (design teacher and childrens architecture and design book author) has written a book and brought architects together to create a real conversation and lay the foundations for a meaningful discussion on what it truly means to become an architect. The setting was just as thoughtful: a beautiful space, carefully considered details, premium geometric chocolate and black plates inviting everyone to play, build, and imagine dream castles while the conversation unfolded.

Daina created this beautiful book “I Want to Be an Architect” and invited me to share my perspective as an interior architect. What began as an invitation turned into a deeply personal and warm round-table meeting at Ola Foundaition together with Latvian architects whose work I highly value and whose personalities I hold in great respect — Andris Kronbergs , Gatis Didrihsons, Andis Sīlis, Reinis Liepiņš, Uldis Pīlēns — and designer Inguna Elere. This beautiful conversation was thoughtfully guided by architecture journalist Agnese Civle

Grateful for the openness, shared experiences, and inspiration.
Coming soon on TV24, YouTube, and other channels.

A week ago, I had the pleasure of speaking at the “Vārds dizainam” / “A Word to Design” conversation series at the Dekoratīvās mākslas un dizaina muzejs in Riga.

I shared reflections from over 20 years of practice as an interior architect in Sweden — speaking about standards, processes and certifications, but also about the human values that shape socially responsible design.

For me, inclusive and socially mindful interior design is not a niche — it is the starting point.
It creates environments that support dignity, well-being and a sense of belonging for everyone, not only for those with specific accessibility needs.

I was grateful to be joined by other guest speakers who contributed strong and inspiring perspectives.
The team from MAGIC — Laura Lapiņa and Dace Izabella Grundšteina — presented their award-winning campaign “Slimība izārda, cerība dziedē” (Disease breaks down, hope heals) for the charity marathon Dod Pieci!. Their work showed how design can speak directly to empathy, awareness and real social impact, proving that communication design can change understanding and response at a societal scale.

Their examples and approach beautifully complemented our discussion — demonstrating that when design is rooted in care, ethics and insight, it does powerful work.

Thoughtful design can calm, support, encourage, and even heal.
Achieving that requires knowledge, empathy, long-term thinking — and collaboration across disciplines.

Thank you to the museum, the organizers, and everyone who joined the conversation.
Let’s continue to design with intention — because every space and message tells a story about what and who we value.

I’m delighted to be part of “Vārds dizainam” 12th Season Talks at the Museum of Decorative Arts and Design, Riga on October 29, 2025.

I will share my experience as an interior architect in Sweden and Latvia, focusing on universal and socially responsible design in everyday environments — how spaces can foster accessibility, inclusion, and community.

The program brings together experts from architecture, interior, digital design, culture, and urban research to discuss inspiring and socially significant projects.

This year, SAALS and architect Rasa Kleina submitted the Otto Spa Hotel project, for which I designed the interior, to the Annual Architecture Award 2025 of the Latvian Association of Architects. What I am most proud of is that it was a work of social architecture – finding the best compromises between Pāvilosta’s history and heritage and what, as someone who grew up there, I felt the place truly needed. Thank you for the trust!

Stadsskogens Preschool in Uppsala – A harmonious blend of play - A I R ☁️

As an interior architect at Cedervall arkitekter it has been a privilege to work and shape Stadsskogens preschool interior where every detail is designed with children’s well-being, curiosity, and learning in mind. From the earliest sketches to the final built environment, we worked closely with architects, kitchen consultants, and landscape designers to create a space that feels coherent, playful, and functional.

The design focuses on children’s scale and sensory experience, where natural light, color, texture, and form come together to create a calm yet stimulating learning environment. Soft green tones and natural materials provide a grounded atmosphere, while custom-designed elements like niches, curved seating stages, and thoughtful storage solutions support both creativity and order in everyday activities.

The flowing terrazzo vinyl floors and acoustically effective wall panels create both visual and functional harmony, encouraging interaction and movement without overwhelming the senses. In the heart of the preschool, the large windows open the space to the surrounding forest, making nature a constant presence in the children’s daily rhythm.

Every room is designed to inspire – from the playful kitchenettes that invite self-sufficiency, to cozy reading corners that nurture concentration and imagination. This preschool is not just a building; it is a living pedagogical tool that grows with the children.

Our identity is our strength – it shapes our perspective and our ability to make an impact. Living between differentt cultures, I’ve realized that being Latvian is both my roots and my inspiration. In architecture and education, I see how a well-structured space creates well-structured thoughts and lives. It’s not just about buildings but about the human experience within them. And that’s my mission – to create spaces where we can grow and truly be ourselves.

Thrilled to share the design and photo journey of Ellen Fries Gymnasium in Uppsala! This beautifully restored 1889 building by Cedervall arkitekter team, nestled by the river, balances heritage and modern functionality. Inspired by the site, ceramic stoves, and Ellen Fries herself, the design features soft curves, custom furniture, built-in charging points, and sustainable materials as beautiful Tarkett Official IQ Surface. Each floor tells a unique story with thoughtful color concepts, from peach-toned cafeteria furniture to soft pink library chairs, honoring Sweden’s first female PhD and her dedication to education.
