Here is one of the pictures I created for the farewell celebration of two gentlemen who had worked at SinterCast for a tremendous number of years and who were now leaving. It was a commissioned project I was asked about last autumn, and of course my answer was yes!
We started brainstorming ideas, and for Steve Dawson, President and CEO of SinterCast, there was one thing in particular. Apparently, he often mentions a hot air balloon to describe how much one ton of carbon dioxide is, it’s the amount that fits inside a hot air balloon. So the choice was obvious: he had to ride in a hot air balloon. Since SinterCast produces engine blocks, the balloon naturally had to be one of those. The “basket” he is sitting in is a measuring cup used in production. On the block you can also see the numbers 5-6-7-8, which are important to the company, so I added those too!
Once the idea was finalized, the balloon basket assembled, and the engine block painted in light colors, Steve was flown in from England. He didn’t really understand what it was all going to become, but he was happy nonetheless. Yesterday, I finally got to present the artwork, and it was unbeatable to see how happy he became.
I would absolutely love to do more assignments like this because it was incredibly fun!
