“Pioneer” is perhaps a word used a little too lightly nowadays, but saying that Ozzy Osbourne was a pioneer almost, weirdly, feels like an understatement. With his incomparable voice & a personality that’s impossible to dislike, he was destined for greatness, & greatness he achieved. From being The Godfather of Heavy Metal to becoming a beloved reality star, the thing I probably admire most about Ozzy is that he never shied away from being vulnerable. He was one of the first celebrities to openly speak about his struggles, likely saving countless lives by allowing people to see themselves in his pain & feel less alone. 🖤

Ozzy Osbourne was a true pioneer, someone who always stayed true to himself, followed his creative instincts, & genuinely managed to change the world. 🌍

& for me personally? He’s in many ways one of the most important figures in my life. His was the first vinyl record I ever bought, then Black Sabbath became the soundtrack to my gloomy, moody teenage years, while he also managed to brighten up my days on MTV everyday. Now, as an adult who’s been working in music for over 20 years, I truly believe I might not have taken this path if it weren’t for that first record all those years ago…

What’s your relationship with Ozzy? 🖤

It's once again time for (created by 👏) & today we are focusing on both the year 1973, but mainly on the one & only, Bruce Springsteen, who managed to put out not one, but TWO records this year, his debut "Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J." on January 5th 1973, & the follow-up "The Wild, the Innocent & the E Street Shuffle" on November 5th. Both great albums, & an impressive start to a +50 year long career that is still going strong. But which one do you enjoy more? My vote goes to “The Wild…” ✨ (also shout out to .jean_ who also posted these two a few days ago, great minds 🖤)

It’s Wednesday which means that its time for another (cerated by the one & only 🙌), & today’s contestants are two grunge CLASSICS that turned 30 this year, Nirvanas “In Utero” & Pearl Jam’s “Vs”, where “Vs” can be considered a staple at the beginning of their career, & “In Utero” being unfortunately Nirvanas last one, but considered by many to be close to a perfect record. But the question is, which one do YOU prefer? 🖤

For me it’s probably “Vs”, perhaps for nostalgic reasons. For a long time it was my favorite PJ album, but as an adult I probably revisit “In Utero” a bit more. ✨

Recently Jimi Hendrix & The Experience third & final album, "Electric Ladyland" turned 55, an incredibly influential album that has shaped rock as we know it today, an album that can be described as a psychedelic journey tinted with funk & blues rock influences, reminiscent of its two older siblings, but still, with its own character. ✨

And just like the cover on its predecessor, “Axis: Bold As Love”, Hendrix was not particularly fond of this one either. For “Electric Ladyland”, Hendrix had envisioned a photo of the band sitting in front of an Alice in Wonderland sculpture in Central Park, surrounded by children, & this photo was to be taken by photographer Linda Eastman. But his US label Reprise didn't like the idea, & instead chose a blurry, reddish photo of Hendrix as the cover, & in the UK, the label Track Records, took a completely different route, & the result is the one I'm holding, a gatefold cover filled with 19 unclothed ladies, that was supposed to be seductive, but as one of the women, Reine Sutcliffe, featured on the cover said: "[this] picture makes us look old & tired". As mentioned, Hendrix didn't like it either, distancing himself from the labels choice, calling it "mostly all bu****it".

But enough about the cover, let's talk about the music instead, because I'd like to know, which one of their three albums is your favorite? Is it this one? Or is it “Axis: Bold As Love”, or maybe “Are You Experienced”? 📝

Happy 45th birthday to this little red marvel, Kraftwerk’s "Die Mensch-Maschine", or "The Man-Machine" as it's called in English. Perhaps Kraftwerk's most important record during their career, or at least when it comes to reaching a wider audience beyond the German borders. The album's 4th track "The Model" even managed to snag that desirable number one spot on the UK singles charts, & was the first German band to ever do so. Quite an impressive feat. 💫

And it's time once again to discuss favorite records, & as you can probably tell by this picture that happens to be one of my favorite bands of all time, & while I do love this album to bits, it's not my favorite of theirs (but it is the only one I prefer in English over German). "Computerwelt" will most likely always hold that number one position, for me, but the real question is, what's your favorite Kraftwek album? 🤖❤️

Let's talk obsessions! I was recently in Berlin for a few days, & of course I took the opportunity to explore some of the city's magnificent record stores. This trip also happened to coincide with a current DAF obsession that I've been suffering from (i.e. heavily enjoying) for the past few months. I also got to expand my collection in other ways as you can see, all of these records came home with me (records I can't list because of IG's character limit but if you want to know title/genre/anything else, feel free to ask in the comments or DM 🖤).

Well, back to DAF because as I mentioned, I've entered an absolutely feral DAF era once again, where pretty much everything I listen to, or simply just think about, can somehow be traced back to DAF. To some of you this will sound absolutely insane, but I know there will be many who will not only understand, but relate. Where something is so good, it absolutely consumes you. Anyway, this obsession has led me down both a punk, synth, but also a minimalism rabbit hole, & that in turn led me to make this months synth based radio show about synth minimalism (if that sounds like something you want to listen to, you can find the link in my bio or stories). My obsession has simply taken over every aspect of my life.

BUT enough about me, what I really wanted to talk about today are YOUR current music obsessions, & I want to know what your latest obsession is? Is it something old, something new? How did you discover it? Is it a re-discovery? Let's inspire each other with our obsessions! ✨

Today, two Led Zeppelin albums, both released in 1969, are facing off in today's (created by 👑)! The battle of the 69's essentially. One is their debut, one of the strongest debuts of all time in my opinion, & the other is their sophomore, that has perhaps the strongest opening track of all time (Led Zeppelin has never had a week opening track though, but "Whole Lotta Love" is something else). ✨

So who will win today's battle, I or II? My vote goes to II, it's my fav Led Zeppelin album, & I just love it to bits. But which one do you chose? 🖤

Time to celebrate another record birthday! Today Eddie Vedder released his solo debut album, "Into The Wild", exactly 15 years ago, an album based on the songs he famously made for the movie with the same name. And here Vedder dove deeper into somewhat sparser, less electric guitar filled Pearl Jam-esque soundscapes, & opted instead for a more acoustic, folk influenced sound with, at the time, a surprising amount of ukulele (now we are well aware that Vedder has a fascination for this four-stringed little instrument). And the result? Absolutely perfect, could not have imagined a better soundtrack, & a stunning debut too. 🖤

So what do you think of Vedder's solo work? Do you perhaps think his best work can be found here? Or are you a hardcore Pearl Jam stan? Or maybe your heart skips a beat every time you hear him crooning in Temple Of The Dog? Let's talk! ✨

It's time to discuss our first ever vinyl record! 🖤 Mine was a completely random buy. I was into CDs at the time, & I had two stores that I frequented, but decided to venture out of the immediate city center, & go to one of the more niched record stores that carried more metal, which I was starting to get into, & up on the wall, for around $5, they had a mystery Ozzy Osbourne EP, with a mystery signature. Didn't care who signed it, or perhaps doodled on it, & didn't really care what EP it was, it was Ozzy, & as someone who was obsessed with this man & Black Sabbath, & had never seen a Ozzy or a BS vinyl before, that was all the reasons I needed to get it. 🦇

And I would probably never get this record now. I think I've listened to it maybe once, but I would also NEVER get rid of it. To me it symbolizes that excitement about music you have as a kid, that has no rules, boundaries or shame connected to any genre. You just want to take it all in, don't care if it's a "must have", highly rated or beat up; it looks cool, it must be worth your time.

And Black Sabbath is one of those rare bands that I still love from this time in my life, most of those bands I "grew out of", & rarely if ever revisit, but especially my fav BS album "Master Of Reality" gets quite a few spins a year.

But now I want to know, what was your first vinyl record? 🖤 (So not CD or cassette, because I definitely got something else on CD many years before this that was way more sugary & radio friendly...)

One thing that I get asked frequently is what my most valuable record is 💰 (money that is, sentimental value is a whole other post), & I always answer that I honestly don't know because I've never really checked. I don't use Discogs, simply because I'm too lazy when it comes to cataloging, & I've never sold or traded a record, so never had a reason to look up the value for the majority of my records.

But one that I do know is worth a bit is the one I'm holding, which is a US 1st pressing of Nirvana's "Nevermind", & I know this because when I saw it at a record store, VG++ close to mint, for around $45, I gasped because I assumed it would be worth quite a bit more than that. And that feeling when you walk up to the register, like you're committing a crime, like you're stealing, but at the same time, you didn't put it up for sale for that price... but still, heart racing, excitement & bit of fear rushing through you, what a feeling it is! 💙

And it's still not worth INSANE amounts of money, but as far as I know, it's one of my most valuable records in terms of money. So now I have this fancy version, & the reissue next to me, that I actually play...

Anyway, let's talk records that made us lose our breath. What's your most exciting record store or online find? A record that made you gasp when you saw it? 💵
