I arrived in Lofoten very early in the morning, and while waiting for the first bus I spent some time exploring this small lighthouse outside the town of Reine.

Sun has just set behind the enormous skyscrapers of New York City. I took the elevator up to the Top of the Rock, Rockefeller Center, and spent the whole evening up there. Watching the day end and the lights come on in the thousands of windows. All the time with the strange feeling of actually looking down at the skyscrapers. Only the Empire State Building and the One World Trade Center being in eye level.

Another penguin colony, of mostly gentoo penguins scurrying about, guarding their nests, pecking at other penguins passing by, and totally ignoring the majestic ship down by the water.

A place which used to be bustling with life now just stand here collapsed, abandoned and broken. Old machines that have been silent for decades, walls and roofs fallen in, and frozen water covering the floors.

After some work my photo site is finally up again, with a completely new look!

We arrived at Krusenberg just as the sun was about to set. The air was cold and there were snow mist out on the frozen lake.
Moment later I got to wam myself in the sauna overlooking the lake, and they had even opened up a hole in the ice for us to go swim in if we wanted. I was happy just to walk in knee deep.

The polar ices are melting, but seeing ice walls like this is still possible. Do you see the ship in comparison?

We climbed up the slope to reach this viewpoint, where we sat down for a good while watching the glacier on the right and the Europa anchored on our left. The water was still and the sun felt warm for being on Antarctica.

The Bark Europa

This beautiful ship carried us safely across the Drake Passage and into the inhospitable Antarctic sea. Here at anchor outside Neko Harbour, in water that glimmered like silver when hit by the sun. One of the best days of our journey.

I strongly recommend you at least consider traveling with this ship once in your life. It's a real experience.
