Western China is not just pandas and hotpot. It’s snow-like pear blossoms, high-altitude lakes, and a mountain city that feels like a real-life movie set. 🌄🏙️

Just published a new Travel Thru’ The Lens piece on an 8-day route from Chengdu to Chongqing—covering:

Hanyuan’s Ten Thousand-Mu pear orchards in full bloom

Wanggangping overlooking the “King of Sichuan Mountains” (Mount Gongga)

Still, mirror-like Yele Lake at 2,600m

UNESCO-listed Wulong Karst and the Three Natural Bridges

Chongqing’s maze-like skyline, Hongyadong night scenes, cable car over the Yangtze and more

If you’re a photographer or content creator looking for a fresh itinerary beyond the usual Japan/Kyushu routes, this one packs blossoms, landscapes and neon cityscapes into a very workable 8 days. Shot mainly with the Oppo Find X9 Pro, plus the usual camera gear.

Experience the ultimate Inner Mongolia travel adventure in this 8-day journey through Hailar, Ergun, Enhe, and Heishantou—featuring vast grasslands, stunning wetlands, and authentic Mongolian culture.

This cinematic travel vlog takes you across the breathtaking Hulunbuir grasslands, following the winding Morigele River, exploring the Ergun National Wetland Park (one of Asia’s largest and most beautiful wetlands), and venturing off-road in the Kaluben Scenic Area. From forest crossings in armoured vehicles to peaceful hikes along Smiley River in Enhe, every stop reveals a different side of Inner Mongolia’s raw natural beauty.

We capture unforgettable moments in Enhe Russian Ethnic Township, including sunrise over rolling hills and rustic wooden lodges, before heading to Wulan Mountain to witness the unique Bagua Taiji landform. The journey continues with immersive Mongolian cultural experiences in Heishantou—horse riding on the степpe, traditional milk tea making, ethnic costume experiences, and live Mongolian music under the stars.

The trip concludes with a scenic visit to Honghuahai National Forest Park, known for its serene Chinese pine forests, before returning to Hailar.

If mobile photography matters to you, this one’s worth a read.

I compared the vivo X300 Ultra and OPPO Find X9 Ultra in real-world shooting scenarios to see which truly stands out.

This article is adapted from my original reviews published on Techgoondu. The full reviews, including additional sample images, camera analysis and detailed impressions, can be found in the original articles:

Smartphone cameras have reached a point where the question is no longer whether they can replace a compact camera, but which one does it better. In that contest, the Oppo Find X9 Ultra and Vivo X30…

This health tracker craze started with a simple health band to full fledged smartwatches that can be too bulky. And because of that, Google came out with a distraction-free health band. Maybe just too distraction free. For those who loves to wear a watch, wearing the Fitbit Air means wearing a traditional watch just to keep time.

Furthermore cannot use the Fitbit air to pay for your purchases. I have cashiers looking at my Fitbit Charge 6 and asked me where I go it when I scan it for my purchases. They like it small and practical.

When Fitbit Air was on my wrist, I have unknowingly check my wrist for time when there is nothing to see.

The real improvement is actually the Google heath app. A lot of improvements but the key feature, the AI coach is hidden behind a subscription plan so it is only a basic tracker if you are not willing to pay for the monthly fee. At least it still help you get the points towards redeeming your NTUC Fairprice supermarket voucher or cheaper MRT/Bus rides via the SimplyGo app.

What Google should do is to make use of e-ink technology for the screen and come out with a Charge 7 that keep most of what Charge 6 can do with a much slimmer profile. Perhaps a physical button to put the health band into non-intrusive mode just like the Fitbit Air.

That would be sweet!

The S$189 Fitbit Air is a minimal, unobtrusive health tracker but for a little more, you can get a screen and features like wireless payment.

Over a decade ago, with the Huawei P9, AI began to slowly take over post-editing work, using Leica's colour science as the foundation to create outstanding images from smartphone sensors. The addition of a monochrome camera also improved image quality.

Since then, compact cameras have become less popular and have become a niche market, even amongst Gen Z, who are looking for the old CCD aesthetics from when digital imaging was in its infancy.

One of the main reasons why compact cameras are now niche, with prices that reflect that, is that smartphone camera systems have produced outstanding images by fully embracing AI to process images from the smartphone sensor, overcoming the physical limitations of their optical systems.

OPPO is one of those brands that is pushing the envelope when it comes to cameras. Images that were unthinkable a decade ago are now possible by using an attachment lens.

I have to say the Find X9 Ultra has largely delivered, and whether or not it becomes your go-to smartphone depends on how you look at the photos and videos it produces.

The Oppo Find X9 Ultra is a solid camera phone that can replace your compact camera - especially in situations when you need the zoom lens.

Just before the trip to KL I have done a quick review on the Honor 600 Pro. Sure it is not the top tier Pro or Ultra versions of flagship phones but I would safely say this is performing well for the majority of users.

It is a not as big or thick so it is easy to hold and the overall user experience is on the comfortable side. Again it is not top tier but a lot of people really do not need top tier performance.

Old chip does not mean bad performance these days. My trusty old Find X5 Pro and Honor Magic 6 both well into their CPF days are still working, if you are not picky about the imaging performance. That said, the images that came out from these old phones are also very good even with the current standards. Just know where are the limits.

Honor 600 Pro is great. Too bad it does not have long exposure mode or else this would be a good camera to learn photography too!

The Honor 600 Pro doesn't have the best camera or the most cutting‑edge chip but it delivers a reliable experience for everyday use.
