Everest’s journey began a little earlier than most.
Born very prematurely, this little boy has had a few more mountains to climb right from the start.
Uncle Ben first met Everest about a year ago, when he was just 2 years old and today, Everest came back to Petite b.
And wow.
I honestly wasn’t prepared for how emotional I would get seeing him again.
I don’t know every therapy session he went through over the past year. I don’t know every difficult day, every little breakthrough, or how much work went on behind the scenes.
But I remember the Everest I photographed a year ago. And the difference I saw today was incredible.
We could communicate with each other. He was so sociable, so happy, and so much more confident exploring the studio with me. And today, Everest stood up on his own. And he took a few little steps, all by himself.
I was behind my camera watching him and I could feel myself getting really emotional.
Everest was communicating with me, playing with me, standing on his own two feet and taking those little steps.
To many of us, they might look like just a few steps.
But for Everest?
Those were HUGE steps. ❤️
Maybe this is one of the greatest privileges of photographing children.
We don’t just get to photograph them growing taller.
Sometimes, we get to see how far they’ve come. Sometimes, we get to witness them climbing their own little mountains too.
And perhaps the most fitting part of today’s story?
Of all the worlds Everest could have explored at Petite b today...
He chose Space.
You’ve climbed so many little mountains already, Everest.
Today, you took one giant little step.
Now go reach for the stars.
