For what felt like an eternity, the Grey-headed Fish Eagle remained perfectly still, surveying the waterways of Sungei Buloh. Then, in a single powerful motion, it launched into the air.

The exposed mudflats become a bustling feeding ground and the Collared Kingfisher knows exactly when to hunt. Perched patiently above the shoreline, it scans every movement before launching with remarkable precision to seize an unsuspecting crab.

Low tide offers predators like the kingfisher a valuable opportunity to hunt and replenish their energy.

A White-bellied Sea Eagle swept past Platform 2 at Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve, so close that it nearly filled my frame. Moments earlier, it had attempted a dive into the open water, but the fish escaped.

I've not been photographing the White-bellied Sea Eagle for quite a while, so it was a pleasant surprise when this one suddenly flew past so close.

As scavengers, Lesser Adjutants play an indispensable role in maintaining the health of these ecosystems. Across the exposed mudflats during low tide, a young Black-crowned Night Heron begins its hunt.

Low tide offers a brief window of opportunity. Shrimp, small fish, and other marine life become exposed, turning the mudflat into a natural buffet for patient predators.

On this hunt, the young heron successfully caught a tonguefish and later a shrimp.

For a young heron, every successful hunt builds the experience needed to survive. And on these productive wetlands, every low tide is another opportunity to learn.

Hidden beneath the murky waters of Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve, only ripples hinted that something extraordinary was unfolding. Then, the water erupted.

Hidden behind branches, the Stork-billed Kingfisher remained almost invisible. We couldn't see what it was watching. Every subtle movement made us wonder, "Where will it dive?"
Then, in a split second, the kingfisher launched from its perch with explosive speed. A splash. Silence. Moments later, it emerged holding a Three-spot Gourami, its patience rewarded.
Predators often make hunting look effortless, but every successful catch is built on countless calculations, aborted attempts, and impeccable timing.

High above the mangroves of Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve, two Grey-headed Fish Eagles perched side by side, their calls echoing across the wetlands.

Unlike the dramatic dives they're famous for when hunting fish, this was a quieter moment. One that revealed a different side of these magnificent raptors: companionship.

These majestic raptors are often seen alone or as breeding pairs, using their loud, piercing calls to reinforce pair bonds and defend their territory.
