These black and white photographs were taken back between 2006 to early 2012. More than nearly 2 decades later, they still feel just as relevant, meaningful and precious today.

No trending props. No elaborate sets. No distraction. Just children being themselves. Just parents, grandparents connecting through simple moments that have only grown more valuable with time.

This is what we love most about a family photoshoot. Beyond creating beautiful portraits, it preserves relationships, personalities and memories that become part of your family’s story.

“Why does everyone look so worried when they first walk into the studio?”🤷🏻‍♂️

For the longest time, I couldn’t quite understand it.

Then I started hearing stories about previous photography experiences, and suddenly it all made sense.

Some families worry about how they’ll look in photos.

Some parents are concerned their children won’t cooperate.

Others wonder if a family photoshoot is going to feel awkward, stressful or overly posed.

So they arrive carrying a little more anxiety than they should.

But here’s my favourite part.

By the end of the session, the atmosphere is completely different.

The studio fills with laughter.

The kids are showing off their “best poses” (whether I asked for them or not 😆).

Parents relax.

Kids are happy.

And somewhere along the way, everyone forgets they’re having their photographs taken.

As a family photographer in Singapore, I’ve always held myself to a simple standard.

Creating beautiful family portraits is important.

But beautiful photographs alone are not enough.

The real measure of a successful family photoshoot in Singapore isn’t just what appears in the final images.

It’s how the experience felt.

Did the family connect?

Did the children have fun?

Did everyone leave happier than when they arrived?

Because years from now, you may not remember every pose, backdrop or lighting setup.

But you will remember the laughter.

You will remember the people who were there.

And you will remember how you felt.

If a family leaves the studio smiling bigger than when they walked in, then that’s a photoshoot done right. ❤️

Perfect backgrounds.

But family photography has never been about perfection.

It's about making a shy child feel comfortable.
Helping nervous parents relax.
Bringing three generations together in a single frame.
Recognizing a fleeting moment and capturing it before it's gone.

Anyone can buy a camera.
Software can be learned.
AI can be trained.

Master family photographers aren't valued simply for pressing the shutter.

They'll remember how they felt.

And that's something no artificial intelligence can recreate.

What matters just as much is what happens before the photograph is taken.

Some grandparents tire easily.
Some families simply need a little more patience, guidance and understanding.

The ability to read the room.

To adapt to different personalities.

To keep everyone comfortable, engaged and included.

And to create an experience that feels as good as the photographs look.

That's the part portfolios rarely show.

Anyone can have a great photoshoot once.

Many claim what we claim...
But claiming and delivering are two 𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒚 different things.

We know we deliver consistently because we've been doing it year after year, for family after family.

A family portrait can be taken in a beautiful studio.
It can have an amazing backdrop.
Fancy decorations.
Perfect lighting.
Everything 𝑰𝒏𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒈𝒓𝒂𝒎-𝒘𝒐𝒓𝒕𝒉𝒚.

But here's the funny thing...

Ten years later, nobody remembers the backdrop.
Nobody gathers around the dining table and says, "𝑾𝒐𝒘, 𝒓𝒆𝒎𝒆𝒎𝒃𝒆𝒓 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒊𝒏𝒄𝒓𝒆𝒅𝒊𝒃𝒍𝒆 𝒈𝒓𝒆𝒚 𝒘𝒂𝒍𝒍 𝒃𝒆𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒅 𝒖𝒔?"

What people remember, is 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐟𝐞𝐥𝐭.

Were you nervous?
Were you worried about the kids behaving?
Were you wondering what to do with your hands?
Or were you laughing so much that you completely forgot there was a camera in front of you?

I still remember a client pointing to a family photograph they had taken elsewhere years ago...

From my professional photographer's eye, it was a fantastic photograph.
Great composition.
Beautiful lighting.
Everything technically perfect.

Then they said something that stayed with me.

"𝑬𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒚 𝒕𝒊𝒎𝒆 𝑰 𝒔𝒆𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒑𝒉𝒐𝒕𝒐𝒈𝒓𝒂𝒑𝒉, 𝒊𝒕 𝒓𝒆𝒎𝒊𝒏𝒅𝒔 𝒎𝒆 𝒉𝒐𝒘 𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒓𝒊𝒃𝒍𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒆𝒙𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒊𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝒘𝒂𝒔."

That photograph looked beautiful. But the memory attached to it wasn't.

Not every corner of Singapore needs to be polished and perfect.

Some carry stories in peeling walls, hidden back lanes and quiet little details most people walk past.

Singapore Botanic Gardens is more than just a beautiful park.

It is the first tropical botanic garden and only the third botanic garden in the world to be recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

And just like Singapore itself, it never stops growing.

From a tiny island of just over 500 square kilometres to the vibrant 744 square kilometres we know today, Singapore has evolved beautifully over the decades… and so has our beloved Botanic Gardens.

One of its newest gems is the Gallop Extension. A stunning addition featuring restored colonial-era black-and-white bungalows, the Mingxin Foundation Rambler’s Ridge, and over 15 football fields worth of lush greenery dedicated to forest conservation and educational play.

As a master photographer for almost two decades, spaces like these constantly awaken my artistic senses.

Every family is different.
Every connection is unique.
And every corner of the Gardens tells a different story.

Some families fit beautifully among the open lawns and golden sunlight.

📣Did you know that Koon Seng Rd Shophouses were never so colorful?

It is only after 1991 that URA gazetted the area for conservation. These shophouses were then restored slowly to what it is today.

The facade was the most recognised feature that many from Singapore and all over the world come and take their photos; which I think is way too cliche.

If you must, take a few.

Apart from the signature colourful shophouses, there are many other spots along alley way that makes even more interesting pictures.

As a local master photographer, I know the hidden spots that offer you something “different”.
