[Throwback]

Since developing the brand for OBS in 2024, we’ve had the privilege of partnering them through various application touchpoints from communication materials to environmental graphic.
Nature Calibrated was translated into a visual identity system built around contrast: rugged yet considered, expressive yet structured.
At its core is the use of a condensed typeface with an assertive, utilitarian character. Its weight and proportions bring a physicality to the identity that reflects the outdoor environment while photography is organised through a three-tier framework defining the relationship between nature, participants and OBS as facilitator.
A four-pillar communication framework brings image, typography and messaging together. Different combinations allow communications to move between reflective, inspirational, educational and contextual registers while remaining recognisably OBS.
Alongside these elements, hand-drawn illustrations reference the visual language of expedition field notes: equipment observed, documented and annotated along the way. Their looser quality introduces moments of observation and reflection into an otherwise bold graphic system, connecting the identity back to OBS’s approach to learning through experience.

[Throwback]

Last year, we developed a refreshed brand direction for Outward Bound Singapore (OBS) based on the concept Nature Calibrated, that clarifies the viewpoint of their identity to be first seen as educators above the rawness of outdoor adventure.
Arriving at this positioning required us to look beyond OBS’s existing brand materials.
Across multiple visits to its Pulau Ubin campuses, we mapped the participant journey from pier to forest, documenting key touchpoints and the language encountered along the way. We audited OBS’s public-facing communications and spoke with staff, partners and subject-matter experts to understand the organisation from multiple perspectives.
What emerged was a productive tension.
Nature captures the outdoor environment as an active agent in the OBS experience. Calibrated represents the deliberate adjustment of challenge, guidance and reflection through which that experience becomes transformative.
Together, they established a strategic foundation that could hold both sides of OBS—adventurous yet considered, rugged yet precise, challenging yet nurturing—and provided the basis for the visual and verbal identity that followed.

[Throwback]

The process behind the hypothetical Thoughtless campaign was rooted in the logic of how we introduce ourselves to a client by demonstrating exactly what works. To move beyond the standard civic formula, we proposed a visual language built on hyperbolic character archetypes that captured the specific, recurring frustrations of the daily commute. By designing each figure to embody a recognisable “3 truth,” we transformed abstract habits into a tangible cast of offenders that commuters could immediately identify.

[Throwback]

What if public behaviour campaigns stopped being so polite? The Thoughtless Bunch was our irreverent take on an LTA-style commuter campaign, created as a response to civic messaging that often softens bad behaviour until it becomes easy to ignore. Instead of asking commuters to be gracious in broad, familiar terms, the series named the habits people actually recognise on public transport by turning inconsiderate behaviour into exaggerated commuter archetypes. By using humour, discomfort, and a small dose of shame to make the message harder to dismiss, the hypothetical campaign held up a sharper mirror to everyday public behaviour.

Not every tender is meant to be won; sometimes, the greatest value lies in discovering how your studio wants to work.

When a tender to design a commuter behaviour initiative for Singapore’s public transport network appeared, we knew that we were stepping into a conversation that had been running for years. The standard industry response is usually to layer new creative assets onto existing, familiar formulas. Instead, our team felt compelled to dig into the foundations—questioning why those conventions were established in the first place, and whether they still hold meaning for today’s audience.

This approach shifted our focus from basic campaign ex*****on to deeper questions about human friction and relevance. Rather than crafting flawless, aspirational role models that commuters tune out, we explored the impact of holding up a mirror to the “thoughtless bunch”—those uncomfortably relatable habits we all witness daily. It served as a vital reminder that our role isn’t to pursue novelty for its own sake, but to examine a problem so thoroughly that we know exactly when a traditional path works, and precisely when it needs to be challenged.

While the contract didn’t land with us, and as expected, went to the incumbent, we walked away with a sharpened conviction that meaningful creative strategy demands a willingness to dismantle assumptions.

Swipe through to see the fundamental questions that outlasted the pitch.
