📸 January 30, 1962 Carlos P. Romulo meets President John F. Kennedy at the White House. 🇵🇭🇺🇸

📸 Andy Warhol with Imelda Marcos, 1976

A fascinating glimpse into the worlds of art, fashion, and politics: Andy Warhol, the legendary American pop artist, was photographed wearing his trademark casual jeans while socializing with Imelda Marcos during an event in 1976. The image captures an unusual meeting of two highly recognizable figures of the era—Warhol, known for transforming celebrity culture into art, and Imelda, who was then one of the Philippines’ most prominent public figures.

It is one of those photographs that quietly reflects the international social circles surrounding politics, art, fashion, and celebrity during the 1970s.

The Preparatory Committee for Philippine Independence (PCPI) was a body created in June 1943 during the Japanese occupation of the Philippines in World War II.
The PCPI was tasked with drafting a new constitution for the Philippines, which would serve as the foundational law for the Japanese-sponsored Second Philippine Republic (1943–1945). This was in line with Japanese Premier Hideki Tōjō's promise of "the honor of independence" to the Filipinos. It was composed of 20 delegates, largely prominent Filipino leaders, including members of the pre-war Philippine National Assembly and individuals who had experience with the drafting of the 1935 Philippine Constitution. The members were selected by the KALIBAPI (Kapisanan sa Paglilingkod sa Bagong Pilipinas - Association for Service to the New Philippines), which was the only political organization allowed by the Japanese at the time.

Kermit Dowling.
