These are the newly refurbished KIHA 40 Series diesel railcars have recently entered service, operating commuter routes between Bangkok and Ayutthaya since April 20, 2026 🚉

The Japanese trainsets acquired in 2024 underwent extensive modifications at the Makkasan workshops to meet the operational requirements of the State Railway of Thailand. This included converting the original Japanese narrow-gauge wheelsets 🇯🇵 (1,067 mm) to Thailand’s metre-gauge standard 🇹🇭 of 1,000 mm, along with other technical adaptations to ensure compatibility with local infrastructure and service conditions.
