The Blue Mosque

The Blue Mosque in Istanbul, also known by its official name, the Sultan Ahmed Mosque (Turkish: Sultan Ahmet Camii), is an Ottoman-era historical imperial mosque located in Istanbul, Turkey. A functioning mosque also attracts large numbers of tourist visitors. It was constructed between 1609 and 1616 during the rule of Ahmed I. Its Külliye contains Ahmed's tomb, a madrasah, and a hospice. Hand-painted blue tiles adorn the mosque’s interior walls, and at night the mosque is bathed in blue as lights frame the mosque’s five main domes, six minarets, and eight secondary domes. It sits next to the Hagia Sophia, the principal mosque of Istanbul until the Blue Mosque's construction and another popular tourist site. The Blue Mosque was included in the UNESCO World Heritage Site list in 1985 under the name of "Historic Areas of Istanbul".

National Palace of Sintra

The Palace of Sintra is first referenced by Al-Bakrî, a 10th century Moorish geographer, in conjunction with the castle that he placed in the lofty peaks of the surrounding hills, today entitled the Moorish Castle. In 1147, following the conquest of Lisbon by Afonso Henriques, the Almoravids of Sintra surrendered to bring an end to over three centuries of Moorish domination. On the site of the current palace, then named Chão da Oliva, there probably once stood the residence of the Moorish governors but with the remains still for discovery.

White Breasted Cormorant

The white-breasted cormorant is much like the widespread great cormorant and if not a regional variant of the same species, is at least very closely related. It is distinguished from other forms of the great cormorant by its white breast and by the fact that subpopulations are freshwater birds. Phalacrocorax lucidus is not to be confused with the smaller and very different endemic South Australian black-faced cormorant, which also is sometimes called the white-breasted cormorant.

The one in the picture found at Pookodu Lake, Wayanad dt, Kerala, India.

Lough Tay

Lough Tay is, along with Glendalough, one of the most photographed locations in Wicklow. The stunning scenery of the Lake surrounded by the mountains makes it one of the most iconic locations in Ireland.

Lough Tay is fed by the Cloghoge River and then drains into Lough Dan, located to the south. The beach on the northern side is bright white sand. It was imported by the Guinness family who’s estate runs through part of the Lough Tay area. The shape of the lake with the white sand at the top makes it look like a Pint of Guinness!

The best viewing point to see Lough Tay is along the Military Road above, at the junction with the Wicklow Way. From there, enjoy the stunning views over the Wicklow Mountains.
