“Ndirathimirwo” (Was I not blessed)
Njuguna manages to squeeze a smile 60 hours into his 72-hour tree hugging challenge at the heart of Iten town, Elgeyo Marakwet county. The long distance runner who earns most of his income from massaging fellow athletes, embarked on this crazy challenge in an effort to raise awareness around Ending Gender Based Violence and Antidoping.
His strong will and belief saw him hit 72 hours with his fingers clasped around a tree, with a basic diet of glucose water.
Most people tried to wrap their head around the phenomenon, but one thing it did, was bring life to this slow town for 3 days and nights before everyone went back to their lives.
A day later, a few metres away, another tree was on the receiving end of another tree hugger.
