We saw Dakh Daughters in Lviv this week, and it was truly magical.

Funny, moving, chaotic, beautiful, poignant, theatrical. It’s one of the most original live performances I’ve seen in a long time. I got lost in it all. Magic.

They’re playing at the October Palace in Kyiv tonight, Saturday, May 30th, the final stop of this short Ukrainian tour. If you can go, seriously, go! My understanding is tickets are still available.

A few days ago I sat down in a metal tube in America.

Before that, I had been first in Los Angeles and then in North Carolina, filming people with digital cameras, capturing human beings not on film, not on tape, but as streams of zeros and ones.

Then I boarded that metal tube and flew to Poland.

From there, a man I did not know drove me across the border into Ukraine in a Japanese automobile.

Ukraine, where I live now.

Because of course I do.

This morning I spoke with my friend at ARK in Kharkiv, on the other side of the country, through the television embedded in my laptop.

Tonight I studied a Slavic language with my Ukrainian teacher in Mexico through that same glowing machine.

Now I’m home writing strategy using artificial intelligence on a laptop that makes a mockery of the computers I used less than ten years ago.

While she cooks, Ukrainian television hums in the background.

I saw this in a movie.

I’m in the movie.

Some serious NASCAR history - The original NASCAR track near Durham is the historic Occoneechee Speedway in Hillsborough, NC. Original grandstands, track and some old steel including this late 30’s Ford. Pretty cool. Thanks to Bo, Diane and Shiloh for showing the way
