It was such an honor to be able to meet so many business owners in western Ukraine. From Restauranters, to farmers producing all varieties of livestock and their byproducts, stores selling traditional Ukrainian ingredients and dishes from the many different regions, handmade regional clothing, and adventure tourism.

Those pictured here are just a small handful of the variety of businesses that are pushing to succeed in Ukraine despite the war looming over everything. It's never easy to be a business owner, and in that environment it's all that much harder. I show you these to give you another example of the many types of people that have decided to stay in Ukraine. To work in Ukraine. To provide jobs in Ukraine. And to continue to cultural history of Ukraine. These are a few of the faces of why we help.

Day 3 of photos from western Ukraine. Today I'm highlighting that arts, music, and nightlife are alive and well in Lviv City. Remember, when you stop giving yourself reasons to smile, you WILL stop smiling.

Photo #1 : The Lviv Opera House has incredible shows that highlight the regions history in song, dance, and dress. These 3 performers show one set of historic clothing in a night filled with costume changes.

Photo #2 : Pravda Beer Theater boasts not only a massive selection of incredible microbrews made in Lviv, but also one of the best brass ensembles I've ever heard.

Photo #3 : MAD Bar has 5 levels of bars each focusing on a different theme of booze, from a beer floor, to a wine floor, and all the way to the top floor with high end cocktails and a live dj. There were multiple nights of Boston Style Whiskey Sours and I was never disappointed.

Photo #4 : The streets are usually packed until 11pm. Ukraine has a nation curfew of midnight and at 11pm the youth can be seen exiting the bars and restaurants to begin the journey home before the curfew goes into effect.

I feel like I could talk about each photo for days. The emtotions attached. The positives and negatives to everything. But I want you to focus on these moments of culture and joy because this is what Ukraine already lost once and will lose again without our help.

Day 2 of portraits from western Ukraine.

Photo #1: This was our guide in the amazing city of Truskavets. He was one of the most animated and intense men I've ever met and then we sat down for dinner and he transformed into a bundle of smiles. Turns out he a competitive cyclist! His drive was amazing. Truskavets not only boasts medical mineral waters for a variety of health treatments but it's also filled with amazing people with their own incredible stories.

Photo #2 : These are shipping containers in Kamianets-Podilskyi that have been converted into temporary housing for refuges from eastern Ukraine. When asked if they were having issues with housing all of the relocated, the Governor of Lviv replied, "No, when the war started we lost 2 million citizens who fled the country. So housing is not a problem...." Construction is high in swing but there aren't apartments for everyone and these containers are temporary homes for those in need.

Starting today I'll be posting a series a photos taken in January as I traved throughout western Ukraine with on behalf of . The purpose of these photos are to highlight a country at war by looking at the people away from the front lines. Young and old men, women, children. They all suffer from the war. Yet they all continue to live their lives despite the war. It is easy for the media to paint war as all sorrow and destruction. Because that sells. And i do not minimize the suffering and loss. They are real. But in war there are also smiles. And it those smiles, the hope for a better future, the hope to live free, that keeps Ukrainians fighting for their country. And it is my hope that these photos spur you to support Ukraine. And when the war is over, to go and visit, spend money, and meet the people.
