30/12/2018
I went into 2018 feeling good and with a lot to look forward to. Now looking back at the 12 months that followed, I can say the year has been well used with its fair share of good times and bad times. I met some great people that have made time worth while and who are also inspiring but also learnt that some can confuse, frustrate and disappoint you . Despite that I feel that like I’m moving on from worrying too much about the thoughts, actions and validation of others, sometimes it hurts but if one doesn’t feel guilt or remorse then that’s all there is to learn from them. This is related to a lot of things, outside stating the obvious, it is also related to my work as a photographer and my training in the gym.
I managed to complete a big goal for the year, which was to compete again. I managed to bring a much better package on stage back in May as well as learning a lot more about managing the whole prep. I thank all that helped me along the way (you know who you are) I guess the thing I’m most proud of related to the comp was being able to balance the 12 weeks of dieting with the last term of my second year in University, and still being pleased with the results of both.
In the way of travel I had a great year, probably the best year yet. I decided rather randomly to go to Thailand during our Summer and among the lush scenery and religious cultural places I got to visit, this was the best social trip I think I've had (Except for the food poisoning, intense). I am grateful for all the things I got to see as well as the mix of people I met while traveling (especially those of you who stayed in touch).
2019 is set to be an important year, with the first half set to make or break me as I prepare to finish my BA in Documentary Photography. The aim is to present the best work I can do, while also trying to stay mentally sound and focused (shouldn’t be too hard). After the projects I made this year focusing on Doctor Who fan culture and the obsession with sports supplements, I’m beginning to feel a lot more confident in project making itself. Anyway I hope the New Year brings you all new experiences, wisdom and those tender moments as well as being a part of bringing those same things to others.
