A shoebill stork (Balaeniceps rex) stands motionless in Uganda’s Mabamba Swamp.

A prehistoric giant of East Africa, these incredible birds hunt by staying completely still and striking with their enormous bill when they see movement in the swamp.

An African Elephant in Murchison Falls National Park, Uganda.

Despite international bans, elephants remain one of the most poached species on Earth, hunted for ivory that has no place in the modern world. Protected areas like this allow them a chance to live as they should in the wild, unbothered and essential to the ecosystem.

Kibale National Park, Uganda.

this individual came and sat directly opposite us on a fallen tree. For some time he just sat and observed us in a very human like manner almost as if he was posing for us.

Seeing Chimpanzees in the wild was probably my favourite experience of the whole of 2025!

In the heart of Murchison Falls National Park, Uganda, two Rothschild’s giraffes engage in necking, a fascinating behavior where males swing their necks and heads to assert dominance.

What looks like a tender moment is actually an essential part of giraffe social life, showing that even the tallest land animals engage in such complex behaviours.

This photo was taken in Queen Elizabeth National Park, Uganda, while on a predator tracking drive with a ranger. An unforgettable experience that offered a glimpse into the life of one of Africa’s most iconic species.

Kibale National Park in Uganda is home to one of the highest concentrations of primates in all of Africa.

An incredible 13 primate species live here — the most iconic being the endangered Eastern Chimpanzee.

Although listed as Endangered on the IUCN Red List, chimpanzees are still the most widespread and abundant of the non-human great apes. A sobering reminder of just how vulnerable our great apes truly are.

Mgahinga National Park may be the smallest of Uganda’s national parks, but it’s one of the few precious places where you can still encounter the endangered Mountain Gorillas in their natural habitat.

This particular gorilla is a member of the Nyakagezi family, a well-known group consisting of about nine individuals, each with their own unique personality and role within the troop.

The illegal wildlife trade is the fourth biggest illegal activity worldwide, behind only arms, drugs and human trafficking. It is estimated that the industry is worth around $23 billion a year, leaving a path of destruction which is wiping out species at an unprecedented rate.

Some recent statistics:
- For every baby chimpanzee that becomes a victim of this trade, 10 chimps are killed in the process
- 55 African Elephants are poached everyday
- 1 million pangolins have been killed in the last 10 years.

This image was taken on an assignment for where I visited a family home in Thailand that was keeping this Macaque as a pet outside, in a small wooden crate. Bars on the outside of the crate with the monkey also chained by the neck inside.

Asian Black Bear or Moon Bear (Ursus thibetanus)

Back in December I got to spend some time at Free The Bears. A non profit charity with a goal of rescuing Sun Bears, Moon Bears and Sloth Bears from bile farms, poachers, wildlife tourism and the pet trade.

Bear bile farming is a practice where bears are kept in small cages and are mutilated to extract bile from their gall bladder. The bile is then used in traditional medicines across various Asian countries.

To find out more about their great work, check out their Instagram.
