Uganda’s National Social Security Fund NSSF Uganda unveiled the first 550 housing units at its Temangalo housing project for sale in 2024 as it to tap into the growing demand for accommodation in the Kampala Metropolitan Area.

NSSF Managing Director said during a tour of the construction site that the first housing units constructed started last October will consist of 200 bungalows, 200 apartments, 100 townhouses and 50 villas.

“Our underlying objective is to develop mixed-use affordable housing designed to accommodate different income classes to cope with the increased demand for affordable housing in Uganda,”

The Temangalo housing project is expected to consist of 3,500 various housing units, retail and commercial spaces, community amenities including education, health and social facilities, a large neighbourhood green park and the associated infrastructure including roads, electric s power, sewage drainage and water supply.

Byarubaba said whereas the total project costs were estimated at Shs104billion, the cost is likely to be revised upwards due to the prevailing inflationary pressures and economic conditions.

The Fund’s other real estate projects include Citadel Place, a modern contemporary housing project with 40 high-end apartments in Mbuya; Solana Lifestyle and Residences, an award-winning, self-sustaining satellite city with mixed-use housing and commercial developments in Lubowa, and the Offtaker Project, an affordable housing estate comprising 160 housing units in Kyanja.

Commercial projects include Pension Towers an intelligent and modern commercial complex comprising 32 floors, and Mbale City House currently under construction.

Others are Mbarara and Jinja City Houses, modern retail and office buildings; Workers House and Social Security House in the heart of Kampala.

On Friday 4th March 2022, CFAO Motors Uganda, formerly Toyota Uganda, unveiled two solar installations at their branches in Namanve and Kampala as part of CFAO Group’s carbon neutral initiatives. The plants are synchronized to work seamlessly with the main power supply (national grid).

The two solar plants have the capacity to power approximately 2,200 households and will contribute in the reduction of 300 tons of carbon emissions during the 25-year useful time period. Currently CFAO’s carbon emissions stand at approximately 230 ton per year. The company will enjoy over 30% reduction in its annual energy bills.

Speaking at the launch, CFAO Group Director Ambassador Dennis Awori, who visited Uganda for the occasion, emphasized that the company will continue to embrace the Toyota Tsusho Corporation’s global vision ‘Be the right one’ both for the development and protection of the environment in countries where it operates. As we expand our business, activities in Uganda and Africa at large, our company shall not relent in creating and passing on a better global environment to the children of the future in countries we do business.

The 14 July this year, was the National Day of France held to commemorate the anniversary of the storming of the Bastille fortress for political prisoners and freeing them.

The celebrations were held at the residence of the French Ambassador to Uganda H.E Jules-Armand ANIAMBOSSOU in Nakasero. The day is celebrated with a solemn mixture of military parades in Paris, easygoing dancing and fireworks all over the world.

Storming of the BastilleShare IntroOn 14 July 1789, a state prison on the east side of Paris, known as the Bastille, was attacked by an angry and aggressive mob. The prison had become a symbol of the monarchy’s dictatorial rule, and the event became one of the defining moments in the Revolution that followed. This article reporting the events of 14 July was published in an English newspaper called The World, a few days after the event took place. A medieval fortress, the Bastille’s eight 30-metre-high towers, dominated the Parisian skyline. When the prison was attacked it actually held only seven prisoners, but the mob had not gathered for them: it had come to demand the huge ammunition stores held within the prison walls. When the prison governor refused to comply, the mob charged and, after a violent battle, eventually took hold of the building. The governor was seized and killed, his head carried round the streets on a spike. The storming of the Bastille symbolically marked the beginning of the French Revolution, in which the monarchy was overthrown and a republic set up based on the ideas of ‘Liberté, égalité, fraternité’ (the French for liberty, equality and brotherhood). In France, the ‘storming of the Bastille’ is still celebrated each year by a national holiday.
