Dave's photographic journey began when he saw the magic of a photograph emerge from a darkroom print while he was a photographer in high school. Since then he has experimented with his photographic style, which has evolved to a unique perspective on the beauty of the American Southwest. Dave strives to capture the essence of what he felt when the image was taken, from the softness of a sunset to t

he drama of a desert monsoon storm. Dave Dilli Photography images, when purchased from Davedilli.com, are printed by one of the largest giclee printing companies in the world, which produce museum-quality prints on premium papers and acid-free canvases. Hey everyone
Today’s photo has a little story. The drone I use has a high-quality camera that allows me to capture and print the images I want. Also, I typically fly above rugged, remote terrain; so, I have a quality camera that could be several hundred feet in the air, and maybe ½ mile away over rugged terrain!! There are instances that if the drone dropped, recovery would be difficult if not impossible.
The other day, the late afternoon clouds were looking promising, so I took the drone out over some cool canyons. As I was flying, just before sunset, the clouds were building and the sunset colors started to show nicely. At one point I noticed the battery was getting low, so I started bringing the drone back. However, the color in the skies just kept getting better and better, so I kept turning it around to grab a composition as I slowly brought it back to the landing site. Pretty soon the sky just exploded in 360 degrees of awesome color!!

That was about the time my controller started beeping “dangerously low battery”. I quickly brought the drone down and rushed to set my normal camera up on a tripod. As soon as that camera was up, I was hit with a huge gust as a windstorm with some rain descended on the area. The drone was literally being blown around on the ground.. While I was rushing to grab it I was worried the tripod was going to fall over, so had to secure it also.
I realized afterwards that if I had brought the drone down only few minutes later, it most likely would have blown away! Fortunately, there was no damage to either camera.

Wow – I really need to watch what I am doing and start learning a few lessons. Anyway here is an image from that evening, I am not sure it was worth all the excitement - but I like it.

This is an aerial image taken from the Peralta Regional Park in the foreground, with the Superstions Mountains wilderness area in the background. The drone offers a whole different perspective to my photography that I am tryng to take advantage of.

I hope you enjoy!

Hey everyone,
I am excited to announce I passed my FAA 107 Remote Pilot Drone certification test today. I was surprised at how much information you need to know for that certification, so am glad to have that behind me now!

This means I can start posting my drone photos - the first is a fun shot of a Saguaro Cactus. To provide a little perspective, this cactus was on the other side of a steep ravine - and about 1800 feet away from me! I thought this was pretty cool!

I was really excited to deliver and help hang a photo for this couple in North Scottsdale. They ordered a custom crop of a 60in x 48in framed canvas image of a sunset over the superstition mountains, just outside of Apache Junction. They have several awesome paintings in their house, so they wanted to mix it up with a photograph. I think it looks great in their living room!

I was fortunate enough to go on a trip to Hawaii, and am just getting starte processing some of the images. It was a wonderful change over the desert landscape I am so use to.

Here are a couple to get started - I hope you enjoy.

Every year, everyone interested in photography in Arizona gets excited about a potential banner year of spring desert flowers. Some years we get fields and hills covered with carpets of color. After a pretty wet early winter, we all had high expectations in January that this would be a great year for flowers.

Unfortuately - this year there were pockets of some nice flowers, but nothing tremendous.
Regardless I did manage to get out a few times - and uploaded a few of my spring images below. These are Poppies and Lupine from near the Peridot Mesa area in Gila County..
