“Paint and Pixels: Triplicity” Now Showing at the Cloyd Snook Gallery

I am honored and excited to share that my work is currently on exhibit at Adams State University’s Cloyd Snook Gallery, alongside two remarkable artists and friends, David Montgomery and Annette Troncoso.

The three of us are located in the historic Masonic Building in downtown Alamosa, where creativity flows down the hallway and between our walls. To now share a gallery space together feels profoundly meaningful and reflective on our own journeys of artistic growth.

This show marks an important milestone in my artistic journey. I first decided to pursue photography seriously in 2016, following a magical photoshoot at the Great Sand Dunes, I had no idea where it would lead. Since then, my photography journey has encompassed grand landscapes, delicate, detailed scenes, and expressive portraits. Each photo I take is a journey of discovery. Exploring the relationship between light and shadow, form, and emotional presence, both in the seen world and our own internal landscapes we carry.

Having my work shown in this gallery is both humbling and exhilarating. It reflects how far this journey has come and reminds me why I fell in love with photography in the first place.
🗓️ Exhibition dates: November 3-December 11, Cloyd Snook Gallery, Adams State University
📍 Reception: Thursday, November 13, 5-7 PM, Gallery talk at 4 PM

For those unable to visit in person, I'll be releasing an online gallery version of the same works. Please message me if you would like to receive the digital collection.

I would be honored to share this evening with friends, colleagues, and those moved by the visual arts.

Note: The exhibition includes tasteful n**e figure studies presented with sensitivity and respect for the human form.

Thank you for your continued support on my journey. It means more than I can say.

Large scenic views are always a joy to capture. But there's something absolutely unmatched about discovering small, intimate scenes that steal your attention and linger your soul long after.

Mt. Blanca. A powerful, ever present force visible from every corner of the San Luis Valley. Towering high enough to scratch the sky, sacred enough that even the weather seems to pause in reverence. This beloved mountain is my constant reminder: I am home.

Got to visit Horseshoe Bend last October. Such an incredible experience. I had to take a panorama of the canyon. Right after I took this photo there were some kayakers that started a couple of camp fires down at the very bottom of the canyon. Their fires only showed up as a small dot of light. Really adding to the scale of this enormous view.

Hey All! Did you know the Northern Lights were on full display last night? 😉

I'm assuming everyone has seen hundreds of social media posts about it by now, but here is my take on it. I was honestly very surprised to be able to see these lights in Southern Colorado. They have been on my bucket list for a very long time, and it was such a treat to get to see them last night! I think I was more surprised to see the red and pink colors, I was assuming I'd see the greens that we normally see in photos! I started out taking photos in my back yard in my house slippers and no coat. Skip forward a couple of hours and I found myself out in a field next to a reservoir taking photos.

I did very little editing to these photos. While my eyes could only see a very faint red glow off in the sky, my camera with a long exposure had no problem picking up the incredible display.

Nerdy camera stuff:
I really had a hard time finding a sweet spot for exposure vs shutter speed. I ultimately decided to keep my shutter speed around 10-20 seconds, and fuss with my aperture and ISO. Generally speaking, my aperture was around 2.8 and my ISO ranged from 2000-3500. The solar flare's intensity varied so much, it was hard to consistently use the same settings, which made this a very engaging and challenging shoot. I experimented a lot with the aperture trying to find those clean crisps lines you sometimes see in the Lights. I'm assuming since I was so far south in the US, they didn't show up as cleanly for me.

The part that always amazes me about space is how vast it really is, and how easy we forget that fact. I get so focused on my own daily life that I forget there are literally other universes around us filled with billions of planets and stars. There's so much around us, and so much left for us to learn and understand. I felt this photo encapsulated that thought very well. In the foreground there are seemingly countless grains of sand within the Great National Sand Dunes, and in the sky is the core of the majestic Milky Way Galaxy. While they are completely different scales of distance, they are the same. Vast. Countless. Impressive.

About the photo:

I've been wanting to get this shot for quite a while.

I've had this composition set up in my head for several years now. The biggest problem was getting the time available to go out and take the photo. And also there's the whole issue of getting the stars to literally align and getting the weather to play nice. Luckily enough I got everything to line up just right. I hiked out to the dunes and waited till around 1:00 a.m. to get this shot. There were a few moments where I thought clouds were going to prevent me from getting the photo, but at the very end they cleared up enough for me to get this shot. It was difficult getting the exposure for the Milky Way and the actual Sand Dune. I ended up having to take two separate photos and exposing for different elements of the same scene.

I would love to attempt this photo again and use a star tracker and a much lower ISO to reduce the amount of noise.

Was happy that the weather cleared up enough for me to get some good blood moon photos! For a while I didn't think I was going to get any photos because of the cloud cover. I always enjoy seeing this astrological event!

I've had some down time recently, and I revisited some of my old photos that I never got around to editing. I've added some video and photos to this blog post. Enjoy!

The Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve in Colorado will always be one of my favorite areas to spend time in. It is a harsh environment but there is so much to observe. It is a place with volatile weather that creates a landscape that moves and breathes as if it is alive.
