I got so excited to post a family photo of this family with their newest addition that I didn't even stop to write a caption.

Congratulations you guys!

It's always such a treat to see this family! Watching elder siblings welcome new babies remains one of the coolest job perks ever.

Hanging with these guys is like catching up with old friends, and both of these days were such a treat.
This big sister is the funnest and she keeps me laughing always. Mom gets credit for tossing a farm theme (perfect for them!) into the newborn session mix and I am SO glad she did! (Big sis had her own ideas and edits too - bonus if you guess them)

TWIIIINNNNSSSSSSS!
And their very awesome big brother, who just might be a budding photographer.
Anytime your kid leaves my studio asking where their camera is, I consider it a top tier compliment. Please send me their photos so I can tell them how awesome they are!

For this one, I'm just going to share a passage from The Velveteen Rabbit and call it a day, because I don't have any better words to describe the kind of love I got to witness last Sunday.

“What is REAL?” asked the Rabbit one day, when they were lying side by side near the nursery fender, before Nanna came to tidy the room. “Does it mean having things that buzz inside you and a stick-out handle?”

“Real isn’t how you are made,” said the Skin Horse. “It’s a thing that happens to you. When a child loves you for a long, long time, not just to play with, but REALLY loves you, then you become Real.”

“Does it hurt?” asked the Rabbit.

“Sometimes,” said the Skin Horse, for he was always truthful. “When you are Real you don’t mind being hurt.”

“Does it happen all at once, like being wound up,” he asked, “or bit by bit?”

“It doesn’t happen all at once,” said the Skin Horse. “You become. It takes a long time. That’s why it doesn’t happen often to people who break easily, or have sharp edges, or who have to be carefully kept. Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in your joints and very shabby. But these things don’t matter at all, because once you are Real you can’t be ugly, except to people who don’t understand.”

Briana came into my life via my kids' social calendar (honestly, if you're meeting me in the wild these days, it's probably because kids - please always say hi!). Her energy and enthusiasm are contagious & it's a treat whenever our paths cross. Although I only just met Eric (and Raider), it's easy to see how they went from MBA classroom crushes to hitching up horse trailers and teamwork. Congratulations on your engagement, Briana & Eric. I can't wait to see what comes next for you!

I look forward to this birthday session every year! Her grownups make a 4 ft number with a color theme each year and it is so dang creative!! This year we added confetti (and she's the reason I'm doing confetti sessions this September!) - the confetti is fully my kind of chaos. Yes it's real. No, I don't photoshop it. Yes, OF COURSE I am happy to provide the confetti of your choice. Hit me up to get on the calendar and get your confetti color picked. Planning to do a white backdrop for everyone, but if you want a color, holler!!

This is sneak peek one of two for this fam - this session is officially their daughter's birthday session & they didn't ask for a gallery of black and white images (the full color ones are in your gallery!) but whether they were going for it or not, these images are absolutely goals for me in terms of timelessness and emotion - this is how I want to show up as a parent when I'm in front of the camera - I just really enjoyed all of their connections and I wanted to share their love and joy.

Also - if your kid wants to see the (insert farm animal here) and you don't mind them wearing their picture clothes into the pasture, YES, we can go say hi to whoever afterwards. (Unless I have somewhere I have to be, the answer is always yes!)

You know who doesn't steal the big slice of cake? ...Your stuffie besties.

Bonus: these guests were incredibly well behaved and did just about everything asked of them.

Big shoutout and thanks to my internet privacy clients who have been helping me figure out a good system for respecting boundaries and sharing fun projects. I REALLY appreciate your time and willingness to answer questions about little nuances. THANK YOU.

It has been SO fun watching this guy take on the world in proper toddler fashion (with a joy and speed unmatched by anyone over 4 ft). His love for cows will make even the grouchiest grump smile.

Fun fact: his dad (Ryan) made me that little wooden "Bottoms Up" cart (see photos) that I've used in about a zillion shoots over the years. I finally got to use it with their kiddo! Ryan made it for me just because 🥹 he's cool like that.

His mom (Savannah) is the one who is often quietly behind the scenes, helping me make my more curated sets look intentional and bespoke instead of like a really excited goodwill haul. Her help and item sourcing is priceless and working with her has taught me a ton about set design.

Obviously, this little guy is their coolest build ever, and I'm thrilled to get to watch him grow up and see my kids be some of his special big kids.

And, not that you asked (actually this gets asked a lot and I never know how to answer in the moment), but this is why I will never specialize in weddings or portraits or kids or adults. I met Ryan & Savannah at a wedding meeting what feels like a lifetime ago, and it doesn't really matter what chapter of life they're in - documenting it is always something I want to do.
