Well, I thought I would get out to Bernardo at least one time this season before all of the Cranes are gone.
There aren’t many species still out there, but I did see a Loggerhead Shrike hunting, some Ring-necked Pheasants, two or three straggler Snow Geese, a couple of American Kestrels, a Northern Harrier and a few thousand Sandhill Cranes.
They weren’t many photographic opportunities, but I did get these shots that I really like.

***Rare Bird Alert***
Here is a photo of a Hooded Warbler that somehow found his way to Albuquerque (isn't there a song kind of like that?)
I think the location he chose is an interesting one with a rich history. The site was first settled as a homestead in 1891 and has since served as a resort, a camp, a boys' school, a tuberculosis sanatorium and a private residence.
I love this photo because he is singing while perched on an apple tree branch. Who would have thought???

Tree Swallow. Isleta Lakes is a fun place to go right now to photograph swallows. I went on Monday and saw four different species. 😁
If photographing swallows wasn’t difficult enough, the water was very calm, which gave me nothing to pre-focus on ! But I did end up with some keepers for sure! I like that i was able to get them banking on a distant varied background! 💙🤍🖤 , , , , , , , ,

The weather, for photography, recently has not been the best. We have had a lot of wind and thick cloud over during the best hours of shooting.
Yesterday I went to a local area to see if the migratory swallows were here yet.
The weather was just as I described but I was able to make lemonade from lemons.
Now to find the Violet-greens!!!

Tree Swallow

This is a Jamaican Tody. Besides being one of the most beautiful birds on the planet (IMO), it was a lifer for me. I just spent the past week visiting family in Jamaica. While there, I really wanted to at least see one if not photograph one. I was, and still am, thrilled!!!!💚🤍🩷❤️

Photographing the release of a rehabilitated animal, of any kind, is pretty special. Because of my love for birds it seems extra special.
